THE SOUTH CELESTIAL POLE

This is a time exposure photo showing a section of the sky containing the invisible South Pole. It graphically shows the rotation of the Earth which causes the vari-colored arcs of the stars during the 47 minutes of film exposure. Exposure details - 50mm lens, minus violet and nebula fibers, Ektachrome ASA 400 pushed to 800, tripod mount. Astrophotographer Robert Price of Victoria, Australia took the photo for Sam Bissette, USA, at the conclusion of a Sky Survey of the Southern Hemisphere.
