Robotech was first broadcasted in 1980 by Harmony Gold. However, it originated from Japan. Harmony Gold planned to syndicate several of the Japanese animation series: Super Dimensional Fortress: Macross (Robotech), Super Dimensional Cavalry: Southern Cross (Robotech Masters), and Genesis: Climber Mospeda (New Generation) under the title: ROBOTECH. Carl Macek was brought in to produce and write what would become a landmark animated epic for television.

Robotech is a story about one ship, SDF-1, that must fight aliens, Zentraedi, to return to their beloved Earth. A mysterious, alien ship crash lands on Earth. However, the continents on Earth are waging wars against each other. After the war is over, the people of Earth unite to rebuild this spaceship. Examining the ship, the humans believe that the alien who sent it were giants. To accomodate for any chance of attack, they built Veritechs. These Veritechs are jets, but can also convert to guardian or battaloid mode. Battloid mode is when the Veritech fighter converts into a giant robot. The Guardian mode is a combination of Battloid and Fighter mode. In the Guardian mode the hands and feet of the Battloid are brought out. Fighter mode is the jet mode. As predicted, the aliens came to invade, and the SDF-1 with the Veritechs were launched to fight off the enemy invaders. They tested a "space fold" which allowed them to jump to another place in space faster then just flying there. However, there was a malfunction and the SDF-1 was lost in space. The SDF-1 had to find it's way back home with the "space fold" system unoperational. To find out more, go watch some!
