X-Raying. Look at a web site for specific content. To do it, type host: or url: and then type a key word. For example, typing host:usps.gov and "zip code" finds pages and sites with zip codes from the United States Postal Service's web site.
Peeling. Each web addresss has links to content one is looking for such as basketball, beauty, or water. For example, a web address may have www.website.com/lookhere/toys/overthere can be "peeled back" to www.website.com/lookhere/toys/ for a web site on toys.
Anchor Search. Search for web addresses for key words. A search using anchor: and key words after can uncover web sites with the key words on the web address. For example, type anchor:"view resumes"and other key words such as "web developer" or a company's name.
Harvesting. The technique involves reviewing a document and finding key words, links, references, and locations that assist with subsequent searches. Use metasearch engines such as altavista.com, alltheweb.com, mamma.com, and dogpile.com.
