TaikaThe Soga house became powerful in the early 6th century by taking many high posts in government. When their power was strong enough, they began to intervene in issues of imperial succession. The assassination of prince Yamashiro-no-Oe in 645 was one of their steps to power. As a result, prince Naka-no-Oe forged an alliance with another noble, Nakatomi-no-Kamatari. In 645 they staged a coup d'etat. They assassinated the leader of the Soga house, Soga-no-Iruka. It was a very well planned and timed act that soon saw the Soga house out of power. Today, the coup is called "Taika-no-Kaishin.'' |
