God Of Gamblers' Return

This film seemed to start out like a typical Chow Yun-Fat film (buddies fighting together against tremendous odds, plus a vengeance thing) but there was something different. When the main evil character started his Blowfeld impression was when I realized that this was what I would come to know as: a Wong Jing amalgam of stoopid comedy, over the top violence, and sex. In the middle of all this was a vision in red, the daughter of a kind-hearted mob boss that Ko Chu (Chow Yun-Fat) must also avenge. Her character was assured and strong and played the meanest game of black jack (blackjack.wav 41.0kb) that I had ever seen. I had to see more films with this actress.

Then came

New Legend Of Shaolin

where she played the younger half of the Notorious Mother Daughter thieves. In this film she is paired with Jet Li (my favorite of all her leading men) he plays a stoic soul who is trying to avenge the murder of his family and friends. Her cute babydoll smirks (babydoll.wav 59.4kb) (yes_or_no.wav 43.8kb) and Bettie Pageish posing make for a great dichotomy between her character and Jet Li's.

Finally, for another must see film that stars Chingmy,

Lover Of The Last Empress

is an excellent film. (I know I'll get flak for this, hee hee) Chingmy plays what starts out as a lowly concubine but through sexual and mental manipulation she puts herself in the lofty position of Empress Dowager. Chingmy proves her acting skills as she starts out as an innocent girl in an unusual circumstance (being one of the many concubines of the emperor) and becomes the most powerful woman in China. Plus, you get to see Chingmy learn the arts of seduction from some very skilled prostitutes!

All in all, I find Chingmy to be one of my favorite actresses. She's sexy and funny and can literally kick ass. Whether she dressed in red or has her hair styled like a pretzel, whether period piece or modern action I always look forward to Chingmy's cute face lighting up the screen.
