I have sat through some of the best and also some of
the worst Ranma anime; and so would you if you
watch the TV series. Some of them are beautifully
drawn and animated, while others don't have a single
frame in it which has been properly drawn. Ooohhh...
now stay away from those. Fortunately, all good Ranma
episodes (these turn into OVAs near the end) are
original Takahashi stories, which are the ones most
worth watching. Mind you, not all Takahashi original
stories are animated well, but well enough to keep
the average viewer interested.
The problem with Ranma anime, is that there are just too many stories which are not by Takahashi. Due to the episodic nature of the anime they have to be thrown in, and some of them are quite good. But my point is, others are not. Some of them are drawn very badly and the stories are just a plain bore, which you would realise if you watch the original TV series. I suppose for the non-diehard Ranma fan you will have to filter out whether a story is worth watching or not. Fortunately, the Ranma episodes released by Western companies (dubbed) are some of the best ones, so you won't have to worry about not picking up your money's worth. The above should really only concern those who buy Ranma anime through import outlets or subbed versions. |
Ranma Anime is unbelievably popular with Westerners, and three movies have been produced so far. I only know two of them though...please e-mail me if you want to comment.
