As Oscar recovers her strength, she stays at the Jarjayes Mansion where Andre gets the chance to spend more time with her. She is worried about the King Louis XV dying and the fate that awaits France. Marie Antoinette and Luis XVI are still very young, and becoming rulers of a vast and powerful nation at a very early age is a tremendous responsibility that has been set upon their shoulders. Andre is always by her side, offering his unconditional support.
Luis XV has died and Oscar has been promoted to Coronel of the Empirial Guard. Andre is really fascinated by her new red uniform. I think that from all the uniforms that Oscar has worn, this is denitely Andre's favorite.
Now her duties and responsabilities with the royal family have increased and therefore, to protect Marie Antoniette's reputation, Oscar is forced to ask von Fersen to leave France at once, especially to prevent the spread of rumors among the french royal court rearding not only their long and private meetings, but Marie Antoinette's special affection for Fersen.
Oscar leaves von Fersen's Mansion. Andre notices her silence- she is thinking about him and the conversation they had. " Would you continue to dress and act as a man, hiding your figure under that uniform, Oscar?" von Fersen said as she walked away from him. His words disturb her. It will be a long time before they meet again.
The carriage continues riding on the streets of Paris, but is interrupted by a multitude that has gathered on the central plaza to witness how an innocent and hungry boy is about to be punished for stealing. But it just so happens that the one to punish this little boy is no other than Duke Germaine. He deliverately shoots the boy by the back. Oscar and Andre can't believe their eyes. How cruel can this man be?
Oscar rushes out of her carriage. She wants to confront Duke Germaine for what he has done, but Andre stops her on time before she would do something she might regret later.
Oscar has accepted Duke Germaine's challenge and Andre is extremely worried and fears for Oscar's life once again. Oscar tells him that if something happens to her, he may keep their childhood treasure, and that he doesn't have to be present at the moment of the duel since Girodelle will be her witness.
The next morning, Andre is present at the site of the duel, watching from a distance how her dear Oscar will be exposed to great danger and there is nothing he could do. Something very interesting to notice is how Oscar, as she walks, recalls her childhood memories: playing and laughing with Andre.
After the duel with Duke Germaine--Oscar was not injured!-- the Queen Marie Antoinette fines Oscar with a month long house-arrest. Somewhat disobeying her orders, Oscar and Andre go to Arrase together where they can cathch up on lost time and enjoy a brief vacation.
At the inn, Oscar leaves Andre aside as she sits down to talk to Robespierre. He expresses his negative opinions regarding the royal family. Oscar is very upset by the concept the french people have of the royal family, especially for Marie Antoinette, but also she sees their suffering.
As they ride back to Paris, Oscar falls down from her horse.
Under a tree, Andre watches over her as she lays unconcious. "I know that you are a sensitive woman, yet high-tempred." He is probably the only one who knows the real Oscar.
She later wakes hearing a France calling desperately for freedom and justice. She is afraid. Andre calms her by saying "It's just the wind, Oscar. It's just the wind."
