The Andre Grandier's Shrine

Nanny prepares Oscar for the tonight's dance. "What's all the commotion about?" Andre asks. "For years I've asked her to wear a dress" Nanny replies. "What, Oscar in a dress! She will look like a scare-crow all dressed up!"

Andre laughs but when he sees Oscar wearing her pretty dress, there is a different reaction. She is indeed a beautiful woman who has captured his heart. With his mouth wide-open and his eyes about to pop out, Andre admires Oscar's beauty.

At the dance, everyone admires Oscar's beauty. Von Fersen can't find an excuse not to dance with her, and so they dance all night long. Von Fersen can't take his eyes from her.

He does though, seem to recognize that the beautiful, gorgeous, mysterious woman he is dancing with is none the less but her dear friend Oscar. Oscar is shocked by his words, and von Fersen continues to pull her closer and closer to him.

As he holds her thight in his arms, Fersen says: "Forgive me, but you remind me of a dear friend. She hides her beautiful and delicate figure under an uniform . . . You look exactly like her."

Oscar'e eyes begin to get watery and suddenly she runs away from him, leaving him behind. (Fersen does not go after her, why?)

Oscar stops at a fountain."Fersen danced with me. Fersen held me in his arms, and he looked right into my eyes, and his heart told me what he feels." Oscar begins to cry. "Tonight has given me the strength to renounce to him." (I wonder what Andre might be thinking at this time. He knows that Oscar is wearing that dress for Von Fersen, but he ignores what just has happened.)

Andre begins to arrive home late due to the secret revolutionary meetings he has been attending. Beacuse of this, Oscar begins to doubt that he might the Black Knight.

She forces Andre to attend with her to all the parties offered by the noble families in order to capture the Black Knight.

Her doubts continue to increase because Andre seems to protect the BK's name and reputation: taking from the rich to give to the poor people of France who are dying from hunger.

She wants to capture him at all costs: even is she finds out that the Black Knight is no other than her Andre. (He isn't!, though we have to agree that they have a tremendous resemblance with each other.)

But later Oscar finds out where is it that Andre has been going all those nights. (I can believe she ever doubt him.) Oscar then tells him that once this is all over, he may continue to attend his meetings and do as he pleases.

Andre is terribly offended by this: "I'm not so selfish to leave you when you need me the most, Oscar. Even if we have different ideals."

So, in order to capture the Black Knight, Andre decides to cut his beautiful long and brown hair, and dress-up like him.

He looks rather cute. Wouldn't you agree?

Following Oscar's plan, Andre, now acting like the BK, goes and steals from the noble families. "He would show up soon, Andre. We have to be ready for that moment."

But dressing up as the Black Knight could only bring tradegy for Andre and for Oscar.

When they finally meet, the Black Knight and Andre engage in a battle. Oscar can't recognize who the real Andre is so she hesitates to shoot.

But then, the Black Knight's sword injures Andre's left eye.

"Ah, Oscar, my eye! Ah, Ah!"

"Andre!"

"Oscar, help me! My eye!"

"Andre!"

The Black Knight escapes leaving Oscar with a bleeding Andre.

At the Jarjayes' mansion, the doctor advices Andre that he shouldn't remove the bandage from his eyes or otherwise he would be in danger of losing complete sight from that eye.

"Oscar, why did you let him go? This might have been the only chance we got to capture him."

Oscar remains silent. She can't believe what has happened.

"Oscar, don't worry. I'll be fine."

Oscar seeks revenge against the Black Knight for what he did to Andre, so she sets off to visit Duke Orleans's Palace, where the Black Knight disapeared in one ocassion. She is later captured and locked up in a cell.

When Andre finds out that Oscar has been missing for two days, he disobeys the doctor's orders, thus removing his bandages and dressing up like the Black Knight to save his dear Oscar.

Oscar and Andre have captured the Black Knight. He is being held at the Jarjayes' Mansion due to his severe injuries. But he is not the only one injured . . .

The doctor regrets to inform Andre that as a consequence from removing his bandages, he has lost sight from his left eye.

Oscar leaves the room running, heading to the room where the Black Knight sleeps. She is about to take his life in her own hands:

"You will pay for what you have done to Andre!"

. . . but is Andre who convinces Oscar to let the now-injured Black Knight go free because the people need him.
