ANIME IS NEATO!

Burn Up W WHAT IS ANIME? ...Anime is Japanese animation. Forget everything you've ever known about traditional animation, because the stereotypes we were all brought up with don't apply. First of all, don't think that anime is a "cartoon" because it is not. A cartoon is something like Bugs Bunny or Micky Mouse. There's nothing wrong with cartoons, it's just that they almost all abide by one unwritten rule..they are for kids. Anime on the other hand doesn't follow this "cartoon" rule. An anime show or film can be about anything, and be for any one.

Anime, pronounced "ah-knee-may", can be funny, serious, scary or romantic. The stories can be sophisticated or downright silly. While anime has all these great advantages over domestic animation, it has one major drawback..it's in Japanese. Not just the language, but the culture and history of Japan fill many shows and this can make it difficult for the curious viewer to understand what's going on. Fortunately, American distributors are bringing many videos here to America and subtitling, dubbing & supplying cultural liner notes so that we can all enjoy.

Anime isn't for everyone. You have to have an open mind and an eagerness to try something new. I may be exaggerating a bit, but I think you'll find that if you only give anime a chance, you'll find it's a great medium that deserves more attention.
