Together Again
Chapter 1

Sarah was so lost in thought she didn’t realize where she was being taken until it was too late. A voice snapped her out of it.

"Greetings Sarah, I’m glad you came to visit. I see you have assumed human form."

Sarah stiffened as she saw all the people of the crowded room staring at her, she tried to resist the urge to flee but failed and vanished with her green flames. Chibi-Usa, Serenity and Endmion looked at each other, they had seen the look of pure terror on Sarah’s face before she vanished.

Sarah reappeared in the valley and was back in her natural form and breathing heavily. Large numbers of humans frightened her. Sarah shivered as she remembered the reason for her fear.

(((Flashback)))

Sarah was in a town in human form and looking around, she saw a magician and decided to watch the show. The magician looked at her and grinned evilly, he spoke an incantation and Sarah was reverted back to an Alicorn. The folk of the town ganged up on her and she attempted to fly when two crossbow bolts from soldiers pierced her wing and she plummeted to the ground, breaking the wing with the crossbow bolts. She scrambled to her feet and ran, the whole town ran after her, they wanted her horn for it’s power. Another crossbow bolt rammed into her shoulder and she vocally screamed. Ahead on the road was a dozen soldiers, waiting for her. They threw their spears at her and most connected, she fell to the ground and all the town folk began to beat her brutally. One spear was lodged in her throat as she once again scrambled madly to her feet, she made a sharp turn and tried to find shelter in the forest, she hadn’t done this before because her right wing was dragging limply and painfully on the ground and she feared it would be caught on something. Now she had no choice. A raven appeared and told her to follow it, Sarah did so, she knew the animals could be trusted, they protected the Hidden Valley, and she in turn protected them from hunters and poachers. The raven led her to a cottage and told her to wait, the human within was friend to the animals. Her rushing adrenalin was stopped and fatigue set in; along with her injuries she collapsed unconscious.

"Good to see you’re awake." Came a kindly old voice.

Panic set in when she remembered the raven had said this human was friend to the animals and relaxed.

" . . ." She tried to speak but found she couldn’t.

"I know what you’re thinking. I’m afraid your voice is gone forever because of that spear."

"Who are you?"

"So it’s true, Alicorns do know telepathy. My name is Merlin."

"Thank you Merlin for saving me. My name is Sarah."

He chuckled.

"I know who you are Sarah, friend of Princess Serenity of the Moon Kingdom."

Sarah stared at him in disbelief. But then they got to talking, and became good friends. When Sarah’s wounds were healed they said good-bye and parted. Sarah isolated herself in the Valley then. That’s when her lonely life began.

(((End Flashback)))

Sarah’s fear of humans was ingrained deep in her mind, and nothing could change that.

"Sarah? Sarah, where are you?" Came a familiar worried voice.

"Please Sarah, you must tell us what’s wrong." Came another familiar voice.

"Please, I beg of you, leave me alone."

"You know we can’t do that Sarah." Chibi-Usa’s voice rang as she wrapped herself around Sarah’s leg.

When Serenity and Endymion reached Sarah she began to get really nervous. She was close to fleeing. The Senshi came into the Valley behind Serenity and Endymion and looked at Sarah. This was too much! Sarah vanished in terror again, but she had forgotten that Chibi-Usa was still clinging to her leg. Sarah’s fear took her to a place she hadn’t seen in millennia, the moon.

"She took Chibi-Usa!" Venus gasped.

"I don’t think it was intentional, didn’t you see the fear in her eyes?" Mars said.

"I have to agree, the level of adrenaline that was rushing through her system must have been tremendous, she was blinded by her fear when we arrived so my conclusion is that she is unaccustomed to a large number of humans."

"Ami . . ." They groaned.

She blushed before translating.

"She’s nervous of humans, but when she see’s a large group she get’s terrified. Something traumatic must have happened to her between the destruction of the Moon Kingdom and now that involved a large number of people. So when we came, her fear blinded her and caused her to forget Chibi-Usa was on her leg."

"I’m a little confused about something I just remembered about Sarah." Serenity started. "During the Silver Millennium, she rarely used telepathy to talk to people. If I remember correctly, she was quite vocal and had a beautiful voice. Since we’ve met her, I haven’t heard her utter a sound."

Everyone looked at each other in wonder, why did Sarah use telepathy only?

Sarah appeared on the moon in the middle of the ruins and immediately calmed down, then she felt something on her leg.

"Sarah, where are we?" Came Chibi-Usa’s scared voice, Sarah was shocked, she had totally forgotten!

"You may not believe me child, but we are among the ruins of the Moon Kingdom. I am sorry for bringing you here, I did not realize you were in contact with me."

"The Moon Kingdom?!"

"Hai, or what is left of it."

"Sarah, it must have been beautiful . . .!"

"Oh it was, it was the most beautiful Kingdom during the Silver Millennium, I remember it well."

"Would you tell me about it? Please?"

Sarah closed her eyes and took in a deep breath as she embraced the memories of long ago, her horn flashed and they found themselves standing in front of the illusion palace.

"This is what the Kingdom looked like in those prosperous days. Queen Serenity, your grandmother, was a kind and gentle ruler and loved by all. She also held the Ginzuishou. There were parties every night, and every night I had to sneak past the bouncer!" A slow grin started to form at the memory. "The Princess was as loved as her mother, I was her good friend though some did not approve of our friendship, they thought I was a bad influence! They had no idea . . ."

"It sounded like heaven."

"Oh! It was! I was the only one of the Hidden Valley to ever come up to the moon, but there were legends . . ."

"And every night Sarah snuck in she knew she had always been an honoured guest."

Sarah snapped out of her deep remembrance at the figure a little smaller than Chibi-Usa.

"Queen Serenity!"

"Wha . . .?" Chibi-Usa said intelligently.

"Child . . . eh . . . Princess Usagi, I would like to introduce you to Queen Serenity of the Moon Kingdom. Your highness, this is your grand-daughter, Princess Usagi."

Chibi-Usa gasped before collecting herself and curtsying.

"Hello your highness."

"Please, no formalities. Sarah, it has been a long time, how have you been?"

"Not very well I fear."

"It is a shame your voice was lost that day. I always enjoyed your songs."

"Sarah lost her voice?! Sarah could sing?!" Chibi-Usa was shocked.

"Please Serenity-sama, do not go there." She pleaded.

"Why yes, her voice would have shamed the voice of angels. That is why she was always an honoured guest, although she did prefer dramatic entrances."

"Not to mention she was a petenshi* who loved to embarrass others." Chuckled a fourth voice, Sarah looked in the direction of the cloaked figure walking in their direction. When he arrived he pulled down his hood, Sarah telepathically gasped her shock . . .
