Together Again
Chapter 4

"Chibi-Usa, it is time to go."

"Hai!"

Sarah transformed and let Chibi-Usa climb onto her back. She said good by to her friends and hung on as Sarah launched into the air.

<I find it hard to believe that Chibi-Usa will be our Mother when the time comes. Merlin is not sure but I am positive that she is our reborn mother.>

"Sarah, will you come to my birthday party tomorrow?"

"Of course, I am quite interested in learning the goings of such a party."

"Could you get Merlin to come too?"

"No promises, but I will try."

"Arigato!"

"Sarah, when’s your birthday?"

Sarah paused, unsure how to answer this question.

"During the summer."

"Any specific day?"

Sarah gave Chibi-Usa a questioning look before landing in the garden of the palace where she switched back to human form.

Together they walked from the dining hall to Chibi-Usa’s bathroom.

"Bath time Chibi-Usa."

"Iie! I don’t need a bath!"

"Do not make me use force."

"You wouldn’t dare lay a hand on me!" She gloated, feeling victory.

"You will regret it later."

"How?"

"Your muscles will be very sore tomorrow, a nice hot bath is what you need to relax them."

"You win Sarah, but you still have to tell me a story!"

"Agreed. Now get in the tub. Once you are done, you must brush your teeth."

"Hai."

"Sarah, we must talk, where’s Chibi-Usa?"

"She is taking a bath, I will join you momentarily."

"Chibi-Usa, Merlin wishes to speak with me in private. When your teeth are brushed, go straight to bed. I will join you shortly."

When Chibi-Usa nodded, Sarah walked out the door and joined Merlin in the garden.

"Sarah, I’ve been thinking about what you said about our reborn Mother and I’ve gotta agree. But that’s only one of the reasons I needed to talk to you, I just remembered the next part of the prophesy, ‘and when the Mother of the reborn Alicorns awakens, the evil which she banished will return and the battle will continue from the moment of the Mother’s death’."

"Oh no! I had forgotten!"

"Exactly. I needed to bring that out into the open. But there is another matter I need to talk to you about. Queen Serenity mentioned saving a young boy from certain death when you were younger, I need to ask who that boy was and how it was possible for him to get one of your feathers."

"I do not know what his name was then but I do know that he called himself Chiba Mamoru, in other words, King Endymion. As for the matter of my feather, I was molting during that time. I had gotten into a fight with a large group of poachers and they severely damaged the majority of my flight feathers. No doubt the feather he holds is damaged."

At the door to the gardens, a pair of red eyes grow wide with shock before vanishing. Neither Alicorn noticed the young eavesdropper.

"That means he was drifting in and out of consciousness when you rescued him, but why didn’t you rescue his parents?"

"They . . . they were already dead."

"I see."

"I had better get back to Chibi-Usa before she thinks I have gone back on my promise to tell her a bedtime story."

"Which story were you planning to tell her?"

"The tale of our Mother." Sarah said as she walked back inside. Merlin grinned.

"Hi Sarah, what story are you gonna tell me? It better not be one of those sappy tales mom and dad are always telling."

"This is a story of the Alicorn Mother. Many years ago, before man, before the Moon Kingdom and before history, there was nothing except a young star and nine planets. On the third planet, which was filled with lush trees and covered by a forest, there was a valley. No one lived in the valley at all! But one night, there was the first full lunar eclipse, and from the moon’s light came the first Alicorn, the Mother. Because she did not want to be lonely, she planted special seeds in the ground. And by the next full moon, the flowers sprouted by these seeds bloomed. Within these seeds were Alicorns enough to fill the Valley. But, one of the Alicorns was evil and tried to kill our Mother. They fought for many days and nights until our Mother created the celestial Alicorn crystal and used it to banish him. Alas she did not live long enough to enjoy her victory, like your mother, the crystal was tied to her life force, so when she used the crystal’s power, she died. Now go to sleep Chibi-Usa. Good night."

"Night Sarah, great story." She muttered as she dropped off to sleep. Sarah tip-toed out of the room and met up with Merlin on the moon.

"Your shift for Chibi-Usa Merlin, I’ll continue construction up here." Merlin nodded as Sarah teleported him into the palace near Chibi-Usa’s room. Sarah began working.

The years pass, Sarah and Merlin don’t age at all. But the once Chibi-Usa has turned into a graceful Usa.

"The years have flown by us Merlin, we only have one year left now to complete our project."

"Yeah, have you contacted him lately?"

"Hai, the plan is made and set to put into motion next year. But . . ."

"But what?"

"I have this feeling of impending doom." She shivered.

"It’s okay Sarah, I’ll stay by you, and so will our children. Let’s go and enjoy Usa’s seventeenth birthday party, okay?"

"I suppose, but I can not shake this feeling."

"Try to enjoy yourself Sarah, no one’s going to attack us." He reassured her as he walked into the ballroom. Sarah looked up at the full moon.

<That is what I am afraid of . . . Please let no one attack us on this night of celebration.>

"Happy Birthday Usa-chan!" Sarah said as she handed her a present. No one had ever been able to figure out the day of Sarah and Merlin’s birth so they dropped the idea. Although they celebrated the birth of Sarah and Merlin’s children Hon and Bara. Usa opened her package and gasped at the beautiful gem set in the gold necklace. All the colours that ever existed sparkled like diamonds, if one were to look closely at it, they would swear that when she put it on they saw a solar system in the making within the gem that was the size of a large marble.

Sarah gave the same thing to Serenity, Endymion and all the Senshi.

"Before we continue, I would like to say that I will explain the nature of my gifts, next year."

"Why next year Sarah?"

Sarah smiled obscurely.

"The gift Merlin and I will give to you and your daughter will surpass all those before. You will see."

The rest of the night passed without a hitch, luck was in a good mood because Sarah’s sense of foreboding didn’t come to pass.

"We must work harder Merlin, we have only one year left until . . . you know."

"Agreed we’ll work in shifts as we did when we baby-sat."

Just then, the good mood that luck was in suddenly changed for the worst and there was a scream that caused Sarah to bolt outside.

"MOMMY!" Was the scream.

Hon was cradling Bara’s head and shivering with terror and anger. Tears were streaming down his face as he held his injured sister. A monster was approaching them, looking quite angry.

Sarah charged into it and sent it flying. Amazingly it landed on it’s feet and stared at Sarah, trying to unnerve her. Sarah glared back fiercely, her eyes changing from green to crimson red. Merlin picked up Bara and hurried Hon inside, he knew that look she had in her eyes.

"Ami!" He called as he ran to the infirmary. "Ami help!"

Now, back to the battle . . .

The Senshi had run outside the palace only to be greeted by an infuriated Sarah and a really ugly monster locked in combat. Even though Sarah was in her natural form, it didn’t limit her at all. She executed a powerful roundhouse and the monster fell to the ground and gingerly touched it’s jaw before getting up an slashing at Sarah with 12 inch claws. The claws tore along her ribcage as she swivelled to avoid the attack. Both were bleeding now from various wounds, and Sarah looked none too pleased about the 5 scratches down her face and along her side from the raking claws. But her crushed leg was the most painful although not her ugliest wound, blood was still dripping heavily from her stomach where it had stabbed her. The monster was in no better shape.

<Should I use the white flame even after I have lost so much blood? As it is, I will not last much longer if I keep using physical attacks.>

Sarah made up her mind and charged the monster feinting low and doing well for someone who had only three legs, the monster bent down, ready to meet to low attack. As the distance between the fighters got shorter, Sarah’s horn blazed with the white flame as she impaled the monster and it exploded.

The Senshi had been watching the fight all except Ami who was still tending Bara and Hon was pacing like his father.

"Bara." Sarah muttered as she limped past without acknowledging any of them as her mind was set on Bara and Hon.

She stumbled into the infirmary where Ami was looking after Bara.

"Ami, how is Bara? Will she be alright?"

"A mild concussion, some scratches and bruises but that’s all, she’ll be fine in a day or two."

"Good." Sarah said before collapsing unconscious from loss of blood and weakness. Ami then looked at her and got her rushed to the operating table.
