Spirals and hornsHair-dryer "Konu"students Chiara Guarducci e Mirjam Kink The traditional revolver shaped of hair-dryer has been
simplified here
and presented as a bent horn.
The shapes of horns, and of teeth or tusks was analyzed by d'Arcy
Thompson in his famous book in relation to equiangular or
logarithmic
spirals. It is a classic example of the interpretation of form as a
result
of morphogenesis, or process of growth following certain, even
simple,
rules.
The horn form is a theme with multiple meanings such as the
horn as
a symbol of the divine force or the horn of abundance, the cornucopia,
attribute of Flora, the Goddess of flowers who, as Ovidio tells us, was
raped by Zephyr from whom she receives as a wedding gift eternal
spring.

Coffee maker "Marzia"students Fabio Parmeggiani e Fanny ZuccatiThis machine in the form of a missile reminds us, like its name, of mars and the Martians. The transparent window for the control of the water level is the space suit with its the porthole and vizier of this alien. The levers for the compression of the coffee pollard as aerials with ovaloid ends like the protruding eyes of certain crabs. The little tube for vapor in the folded position forms the mouth and two thin birdlike legs fixed to an metallic ring suggest a mysterious way of ambulating. "Thus equipped, this being seems to tell us, I am capable of absolving well my duties in the world of earthlings. The oval controls, red on the yellow body makes this space robot humorist, almost like a child with its yellow jacket and red buttons. The menace of the projectile form is thus dismantled and contradicted by this ufologic ludic morphology. |
