How to get there ?

MIMC Homepage Why Volunteer ? Past Volunteer Accounts Ladakh Survival Guide How to get there ?

Ladakh is becoming increasingly accessible, thanks to the many visiting tourists.

By Bus or Truck

Cost: Rs. 200 - 400 (US$5 - US$10)
Time: 3 days from Leh to Delhi via Manali Road. 2 days from Leh to Srinagar with an overnight stop at Kargil.
Plus: Spectacular scenary and chance to travel on the world's highest motorable road (12,000 ft). Also gives you time to acclimatize.
Minus: Not for the faint-hearted. Roads are narrow and dangerous. Please check India/Pakistan situation before proceeding to Kashmir.

By Plane

Cost: US$79 (under 30), US$110 (30 & Above)
Time: 50 minutes to Delhi
Plus: Fast, comfortable ride
Minus: Tickets notoriously tough to get. I was on waiting list number 528! Beware of unscrupulous tour/ticketing agents who will ask for a bribe of US$50.
