It was a total eclipse of the heart.
Who knows yet how well the marathon did???
Do you even care? A major show of support went out on Sunday to all
the Sailor Moon fans, who have made the series
what it is today, and helped save it from a total eclipse, forever to fade
into the darkness. Cartoon Network made it clear who was to thank
for making the series a success, and with the good news of the feature
films coming out later this year, fans of the Pretty Soldiers have alot
to cheer about. Of course, now you'll have to suffer for a week as
CN thanks its Dragonball Z fans. But good things come to those who
wait.

The good folks at the SOS
Headquarters have broke a story for Sailor Moon
fans that is sure to get them excited. Pioneer Entertainment will
be the ones responsible for the release of the Sailor Moon animated features,
thanks to the fact that DiC Entertainment going ahead and enforcing that
option with Toei Animation. The first feature, the Sailor Moon R
movie, is tentatively scheduled for a August 1999 release, subtitled of
course. Sales can help bring a dubbed version, with most of the original
cast likely, several months later. For the full story, please visit
the SOS Headquarters.

Well, before we get hit with the two big marathons,
I thought it would be nice to sit down and reflect on what's going on in
the world of Toonami, just to get everybody caught up.
Sailor Moon, the startup of the block, is fighting her own battles on and off the screen. As we know, on Sunday, May 23rd is the Lunar Eclipse marathon. That's on the screen. Off, another season of the series is in flux. For those who don't know, Sailor Moon ran for 5 years in Japan, spanning 200 episodes. We've only got 82. The next group of episodes, part of the Sailor Moon Super series, are supposed to be the best of them all. Right now, DiC is supposedly in the works to get the funding to bring over more episodes. Until then, we enjoy the marathon.
Reboot, the new kids, is in it's second run-through. I must say, after the third season, I fully encourage, NAY, demand a fourth season. You would never have known it to get as intense as it did after two seasons of cartoonish like behavior, but the series surprised even me, as I'm sure it did to alot of you out there, and now to see if Matrix and Bob can stop the virus that's infecting the Super Computer is worth the time. We need more episodes. The series just can't end there.
Dragonball Z fans have alot to cheer about. First was the release of new DBZ episodes, on May 15th, continuing the Namek saga that we have run through so many times now. I've yet to see them myself, so I hope the reviews are good. Wait for the episodes to premier on Toonami. Then all HFIL will break loose. Then the fans get a whole week of their beloved DBZ, aptly named DBZ20XL . The top show on Toonami gets a whole week to itself.
Johny Quest... well, he's still there, and doesn't seem to be ready to pack it up. The possibility of new episodes in the series have already been deemed unlikely, since Time Warner and Hanna-Barbarra seem to be at ends on the direction the story should go. It's ashame, because more episodes would have definitely helped keep the series afloat, but now it's really just dead weight and needs to take a break from Toonami.
Well, hope that catches you up on some things, and hope you've liked the reviews so far, since there are more to come. Enjoy the marathons, and again, don't forget the health insurance.

(SkitzZero, once again, has to save my bacon on
this one)
So while Sailor Moon
will be getting it's marathon on May 23rd, Dragonball
Z will be making one of it's own the week after. For the week
of May 24th to the 28th, Toonami will be home to two full hours of Goku
and the gang. And then, if you weren't completely sick of DBZ, on
the 29th, all three DBZ movies will be aired. With 'Lunar Eclipse'
and the weeks worth of Dragonball Z, you would think Toonami is going crazy.
Actually, it's sweeps time again ( the television term for when advertisers
rate who it is watching what and if their advertising dollars are worth
it ). The DBZ and Sailor Moon events are Cartoon Networks bid into
the sweeps period. Whatever the reasons, fans of both series have
a whole lot to look forward to this month.
<-----4.20.99----->
This comes as word of mouth from Cartoon
Networks' Toonami page. Many Sailor Moon
fans have been trying for months to get a sorta Sailor Moon marathon to
play on Cartoon Networks Super Chunk, a block of just one cartoon series
that airs every Saturday beginning at 4pm. Well, the Sailor Moon
fans are getting much more than that. Get ready for a full blown
Sailor Moon marathon on Sunday, May 23rd, starting at 11:30 AM. What
is being called the 'Lunar Eclipse,' Cartoon
Network will be airing all 17 'Lost Episodes'
of Sailor Moon, what are also known as the final 17 episodes to the second
season of the series, Sailor Moon R. The popularity of the Pretty
Soldier continues to grow.

SkitzZero, once again,
has handed me an envelope, but this time, it isn't of the good news variety.
The upcoming Dragonball Z video, Captain Ginyu
Assault, which will start the flood of videos for the third DBZ season,
has been delayed abit. Instead of its release on April 15th, you
should go ahead and add one... to the month. That's right.
Now the target date for the video's release is May 15th. Go see Skitz'z
DBZ:
The Third Season to get all the info you'll need on this delay.

A bit of news from the Kids!
WB 'Toonami' lineup. Now, I like Pokemon
as much as the other 10-12 year olds ( I'm in trouble, aren't I ), but
I noticed something watching the different Batmans, Men in Black, and,
of course, Pokemon, this weekend. The WB has gotten the fever as
well, though it is more in the way of marketing. It was a decent
touch that a second episode of Pokemon was added into the defunct Hysteria
time spot, but that wasn't it. I think it was the fact that every
four or 5 commercials had something to do with the lovable Pikachu and
his master Ash, be it in the form of the contest that contest that the
WB is holding for Pokemon ( Who's in the Pokeball-TM ), the fact that there
were going to be two episodes of Pokemon that weekend, or, in some areas
( see Pokemon.com for details ) the
incoming trading card convention. On the one hand, Pokemon is exceeding
all expectations in the North American market, helping to prove that anime
isn't the perverted dribble it was thought of before. Of course,
the double-edge to this sword is that Pokemon could start wearing on the
nerves of some people, because you just can't get away from it ( my helmet
hurts ).

Of course, thanks to SkitzZero
for this info. He is the foremost leader in giving us all updated
info on all the glory of the third season of Dragonball Z. April
15th is the date to mark down, because that's when it all begins.
The first straight-to-video episodes will be available that day in a volume
titled Captain Ginyu Assault. This
tape will contain episodes 54 thru 56 of Dragonball Z, picking up where
Goku...
Super Sayian? left off. And remember, these episodes are
unedited, even thought that shouldn't be so bad, but still just a warning.
Keep up with SkitzZero's Dragonball
Z: The Third Season page for more updates and info on the upcoming
videos.
<-----4.07.99----->
Okay, I know this probably isn't worth the space,
but I just wanted to say I was wrong in my news segment below (4.5.99).
Apparently the Cartoon Network
has lost the openings for Dragonball Z, since
they show the Toonami opening for the 12:30am DBZ. And, I was also
wrong in what episodes would be playing, because they started at the first
episode on Monday. So, if you miss DBZ on Toonami, well, it'll be
back on eventually, but not at 12:30.
<-----4.05.99----->
Many of you already know this, and thanks to recent
events, I haven't seen this for myself. Cartoon
Network has taken a step in the dismantling of Jonny
Quest. Usually on weeknights, at 12:30 in the morning, CN
reairs the Jonny Quest episode that was on Toonami earlier in the day.
Now the show has changed. It wouldn't be of much matter if it weren't
that Dragonball Z is the show that is replacing
the time slot. So, if you missed your DBZ fix from Toonami earlier
in the day, or if you just need another shot of it, then here's your chance.
And as a bonus, you get to see the theme song instead of the Toonami opening,
if you're into that sort of thing.
