He is Signal's fraternal (katakana) brother (kanji=a robot who was made as a test). Pulse was a good boy who everybody liked but Masanobu changed everything inside of him to be a weapon. Since Pulse got brainwashed by the gangs, he's had a bug in his programming.

A-P Ver. 1.0 Retro Pulse

Before Masanobu rearranged Pulse, he was honest and kind. Pulse 2 doesn't understand why he was made to be a fighting robot, and he has to live with every day with that complex struggle.

When Masanobu changed Pulse, he gave him long razor sharp blades, one for each arm, and the knowledge to use them. Also, when his long black hair comes unbound, it conducts electricity which unleashes his laser beam eyes.

At the beginning of the OAV, Pulse is an enemy, having been brainwashed by a man (who seems to be an old classmate of Shinnosuke's) who wanted the secrets of MIRA so he wouldn't have to work to develop his own robots, which were usually inferior.

The man made Pulse, who was a earlier prototype of Signal, hate his younger brother and want to kill him.

If you can ever get the drama cd, there's a hilarious story about Elara and Pulse getting their personalities switched. Nothing like hearing Pulse's voice try to be feminine, and Elara's voice proclaiming "I am Pulse!". There's also a story about Retro-Pulse, which is what they call Pulse 'before' his change.

When he was brainwashed, Pulse got a bug in his program. Now, without warning, his energy level dies, and he falls asleep. You never know when he will wake up.

On the drama cd, a 10 year old Chris and Pulse were friends. She didn't like robots, and was surprised to find out that he was one.
