Chapter 30

A short while before.

The atmosphere was supercharged with energy as the warrior with the long golden hair battled against the pink monster. The pair of twins who had sneaked off to the fight scene were awed, even as they couldn't get anywhere near them. But they did manage to get a glimpse of the golden-haired warrior, and it was more than they had hoped for; it was a sight they would both treasure for life. But neither Tea nor Supper had realised how much danger they had put themselves in by being there and how miraculous it was that they will survive this later.

In the Western Capitol underground tunnel, Videl had managed to keep the situation in order. The little boy was reunited with his mother with her help, and mother and son, together with the others waited anxiously for the outcome of the battle above. From where he sat, Mr.Satan watched his daughter work, and he was filled with pride at how well she was handling the crisis. Unlike he, who was confined to a wheelchair and helpless, she managed to help and save the people here. He sighed deeply at his failure, looking down at his useless legs.

Meanwhile, Videl still remembered her promise to Goten. "Please take care of ChiChi," he had told her before he and Trunks prepared to leave. But with the current situation, she could not leave her post here. Troubled, Videl walked to the phone booth and dialled a number. "Hello?" the voice at the other end called. "Upa," Videl said, "You know what's happening, right? Are you OK?"

"Yeah, we're OK," Upa replied. "I managed to evacuate the villagers to the underground caves. How about you? Are you and your father all right?" "Yeah, we're fine," Videl replied. "That's good," Upa said, and Videl detected a tinge of worry in his voice. "Is something wrong?" she asked. Upa sighed. "Tea and Supper have gone missing. I suspect they sneaked off to the fight scene, but I can't go off after them. I have to stay here and protect my people, in case something happens." 'I should have known those two idiots would do something like this,' Videl thought. To Upa she said, "Don't worry about them, they know how to take care of themselves." "Yeah, I guess," Upa said. "I have to go. Take care, Videl," he said. "You too," she said, and hung up. ChiChi was all but forgotten - only Kami-sama could protect her now.

Upa hung up. He felt a little better after talking to Videl, but he was still worried about the twins. Karin walked to him and said, "She's right, they can take care of themselves. However, I did send them some help."

Back to Gotenks and Buu. "I will kill you, Majin Buu," SSJ3 Gotenks stated, and shot the most powerful blast he could manage, straight at Buu. But as he shot the blast from his palms, Gotenks collapsed, and the blast dissipated before reaching Buu. Buu just looked on with curiosity as Gotenks fell on his knees, blood flowing freely from his mouth. It was no good, he was too injured to produce the blast, and now his injuries have gotten worse. With both hands on the ground to support himself, Gotenks looked up, expecting an attack from Buu, but the monster was looking at something directly above him. "So pretty," Buu cooed. "Like cotton candy. Yummy."

Gotenks looked up to see what Buu was talking about, and to his surprise, saw the Kintoen. He had never seen it before, but he knew what it was, and he wondered what it was doing there. Buu however, was trying to shoot it down in his curiosity. The Kintoen was fast, but Buu was a lot faster, and it was no contest between him and the cloud. In a split second, he had shot a blast at the magical cloud, and it exploded. Buu was disappointed, and Gotenks was horrified. However, unlike Buu, he didn't miss the tiny thing that fell from the cloud when it exploded. Taking advantage of the fact that Buu wasn't paying attention to him for the moment, Gotenks quickly scooped the thing in his hand. He opened his palm and saw that it was a senzu bean. His face lit up; while he didn't have the time to wonder how the magical cloud could've brought the senzu here, he gratefully thanked the Kintoen for its sacrifice, and swallowed the life-saving bean.

Instantly, Gotenks felt his injuries heal, and his strength renewed. He stood up straight and powered up straight to SSJ3 while gathering power in his palms. "Buu!" he bellowed, "Time to finish our interrupted fight! Now you die!" He pulled his hands back and prepared to shoot the blast at Buu, when suddenly, he diffused into Trunks and Goten.

Trunks and Goten looked at each other, panic-stricken. The timing was just too bad. Buu just looked at them, bewildered. But that didn't stop him from starting his own attack just as soon as he's recovered, which was very soon after Gotenks defused. Luckily, Trunks managed to think fast. He immediately decapsulated Mirai Trunks' sword, which he'd kept encapsulated in his pocket, and blocked Buu's ki attack with it. But Buu's ki was too strong, and the already cracked sword broke at the impact.

Buu threw another blast, and this time he himself ran towards Trunks and Goten while throwing the blast at them. Trunks and Goten managed to avoid his ki blast, but as Buu kept coming closer to them, both were at a loss of what to do now. Goten followed Trunks' earlier example of taking a capsule from his pocket, hoping whatever it was could somehow save them. But to his dismay, the only thing he had was a piece of candy; the one he was about to give to Videl before Buu came.

Not knowing what else to do, Goten threw it at Buu anyway. Surprised, Buu caught the candy in his palm. He opened his palm, and saw what it was that Goten had thrown to him. "Candy?" His face lit up when he saw what is was; Buu could turn whatever he wanted into the sweetest candy, but he had never had anybody give any to him.

Buu popped the candy into his mouth and chewed. Trunks and Goten looked on. "You gave him candy?!" Trunks asked incredulously. "Hey, it was the only thing I could think of," Goten replied. "Anyway, I bought us some time, let's scram." "Hm," Trunks agreed. They could not fuse back into Gotenks right after defusing; the best thing to do now was to hide until they can fuse again. As they flew away from Buu, Trunks looked back, wondering why Buu didn't go after them. He gasped at what he saw. "Goten," he said, "Look."
