Chapter 5
Videl sighed as she drove home from the gym. She was glad she took Shapener's advice and took a vacation. She needed a break from work. It's already 3 months and they were nowhere solving the Bulma case. And the twins, they've made a fool of them again by escaping twice from prison in the same day! "Hmph. Forget about them," she thought. They were just a pain in the neck. They've disappeared again but she's pretty sure they'll turn up sooner or later, trying to pull another heist which she will stop, again. Really, sometimes she suspected they do it more for thrills or to annoy her than for the money.
The session at the gym refreshed her. She found that working out, practicing her kicks and punches helped release tension. Ireeza had asked her if she wanted to go out afterwards, but she declined. Videl knew that Ireeza had tried to set her up on a blind date again, but she's not interested. As an excuse, she told Ireeza that she was going to spend time with hr father, which was true.
She'd spent little time with her father lately, and Mr. Satan was a lonely, broken man. He was once a proud fighter, champion of the Tenkaichi Bodoukai for twice in a row, and Videl supposed she got her fighting spirit from him. But that was before the world was turned upside down by the cyborgs No.17 and No.18. And Mr. Satan, as the champion and strongest man in the world, the hope of the world had challenged the cyborgs in a highly publicized competition. And they simply kicked him around for an hour, while the whole world watched helplessly as the man they had put all their hopes on failed miserably. The cyborgs didn't kill him but they might as well have,. They left him broken and humiliated, and he never recovered, physically or emotionally. Videl could never forget that day, nor the smile on No.18's face as she delivered yet another kick to her father.
"You're right, bro," she said ."This is even more fun than killing them all in two seconds flat."
With that she and her brother fired random blasts at the horrified spectators before flying away. Videl never felt so helpless in her whole life, nor had she felt so much anger. But there all she could do was take her father home and nurse him back to health as best as she could. And while Mr. Satan never fully recovered, Videl had become a more determined fighter, even though she knew she could never defeat them. But she hated that feeling of helplessness, and she trained hard to become stronger. And that was why she had joined the police force, to do whatever she could to fight the loathsome cyborgs and help their victims.
Then as suddenly as they appeared, 3 years ago they suddenly disappeared. And it was Bulma who had announced the news to the world, but she claimed not to have known how it happened or who did it. Their savior will show himself when the time comes, was all she said. Nobody questioned her as the world celebrated the departure of the cyborgs and everybody set about rebuilding their lives. And now, Videl couldn't help thinking that this had something to do with Bulma and Trunks' deaths. But apart from how they died there was no evidence that the cyborgs are back. And there wasn't much that they could glean from what they could find of Bulma's notes. Half of it, nobody could understand, and the other half she must have kept in her head and took to her grave.
Videl shook the thought off as she reached home. "I'm supposed to be on vacation," she said to herself as she opened the door.
"Dad! I'm home," she called out.
"Videl?" Mr. Satan's eyes lit up when he heard his daughter call out to him. He was sitting in his wheelchair in his favorite place by the fire. Videl went to him and they sat next to each other, staring at the fire as the evening turned to night and night to morning.
