When Hino Rei is introduced, she had sensed evil presence nearby... even mistaking it with Usagi as she threw an ofuda at her. This priestess appeared to be strong and brave, and also quite proud. She was easily irritated at Usagi and they fight a lot. But it is proven that they were meant to be good friends. Even if Rei dated Mamoru, she stepped aside for Usagi when she learned about their past. In later episodes, we see this bond unfold when Sailormars kept Sailormoon's wand for her. And in the last episode of Beryl, Sailormars held on--the last senshi to fight the two youmas for Sailormoon.
* Love at first sight! Yuuichirou shows true concern for Rei.
And Rei kisses Yuuichirou TWICE in this season! *
Sailormars has three episodes all to herself in this season. Among the many revelations: she is popular in school, her grandfather knows martial arts, and she is a good singer and songwriter. Fighting against her match, Cooan, her Burning Mandala breaks through Cooan's Dark Fire. In their next confrontation, however, she was hurt trying to rescue Yuuichirou. But amazingly, Sailormars pleads in Cooan's defense and Cooan becomes their ally. Rei gets close to Chibiusa and was shocked knowing she is Usagi and Mamoru's future daughter.
* A touching moment! Usagi blushes when Rei comforts her during their battle with Black Lady. Rei actually rubs noses with Usagi to show her warmth!*
The opening episode of this great season was Rei's vision of The Silence. From the very first time, she identifies the Three Talismans, uttering, "You are the Messiah." In a funny and touching episode, we see Yuuichirou's genuine concern and love for her. He even tries to attack Haruka who he (erroneously) thought was two-timing Rei. (He saw Haruka and Michiru together.) But this ends happily with Rei saving him! ^_^ Notice that in the final episodes, Usagi is rarely seen without Rei. Chibiusa wishes for a friendship like that, as only Rei and Usagi had a bond so deep.
* The Dark Messiah. Rei is the only Inner senshi who shared the Outer senshi secret about the doom of The Silence. She even sees the face of the Dark Messiah, herself, wielding her glaive.*
The story, having focused on Chibiusa and Pegasus, provides little story on Rei and the other Inner senshi. Don't miss the story where Rei accidentally stumbles upon Mamoru (and his naked back) when he stayed at her house. (His apartment was on fire.) This sparks Usagi's jealousy. In further episodes, the dreams of the Inner senshi are mentioned, and Rei wants to be a successful woman someday.
* Sailormars becomes Supersailormars with the help of Pegasus.
She uses her most powerful weapon, the Flame Sniper.*
In the fight against Neherenia, Sailormars is joined by Sailorneptune. She envies Sailorneptune's maturity and courage. But Sailormars knows what she must do, even seeing Usagi alone, that she must defend the Princess. Sailorneptune is trapped by Neherenia's maidens and Sailormars aims her arrow at the enemy. Inners and Outers join together, but as like my cousin, Ruk points out, not having fought together and little knowledge of each other's fighting styles, little conflicts ensue. Although in the end, they always unite and fight together. Their battle with the Golden Senshi, Galaxia is the fiercest of all.

* "Baka! You have Mamoru." Sailormars tells Sailormoon as her star seed was taken by Galaxia. But we have a happy ending as tradition, where Usagi meets her friends again, and Rei is first to tell her she is not alone.*
