Last night, Chiba
Mamoru had the same dream of his comrades calling out to him. There
were four of them that had called him, but there is nothing to be done.
Mamoru had remembered the dark marble walls that was once his palace on
Earth and they had warned him about the divine rule that must never be
broken—the people of the Moon must not be linked to the people on Earth.
But that was before. They were not his peers now. The stones
that contained the spirits of his comrades had disappeared. They
had probably gone to where they really belong -- far in Beryl’s clutches.
What shall I place
here? Makoto thought, as she stared at the wintry covered cake on her
table. Inside all that white icing is delicious chocolate she was
sure Usagi and Minako would love to eat! If only those two are
coming here….
Makoto had the urge
of baking chocolate today! Why not? It was everyone’s favorite.
She always had an interest in doing something good for everybody in any
way she can. She is also inspired today.
She had a wonderful
dream last night. He was tall and he had an endearing smile.
She cannot remember his eyes exactly or really describe his features…
Maybe he was as tall and with the same built as senpai. Maybe
with short hair like senpai, too. Hmm…but guys can have
long hair, too! Makoto wasn’t exactly sure. He brought
her a dozen beautiful red roses.
Makoto blushed at
the thought. She had told him that she can bake something for him
and then asked him what he wanted. He said he wanted chocolate.
Makoto felt her cheeks
burn. The piping bag that held the icing was still in her hand. At
least no one would be there in her kitchen to see her—in a mess of flour
and all flustered just from remembering a silly dream.
Chocolate.
The lettering on the cake said. This is what Makoto finally decided
on. At least that would be better instead of putting in senpai!
Yesterday is gone and so should he.
Yesterday, Hino Rei
was plagued with visions of the dark woman with her hair sweeping in the
wind and her might ruling the tempest. If only she recognized what
this omen really is, then she would not have stayed to ask the answer from
the fire. However, that was not all that bothered her. The
image of the light-haired intruder continued to seek her even in her dreams.
What lay behind his black mask seemed to be one of the greatest mysteries
she wanted to figure out by herself.
She held her breath
as she held the card in her hand. Who is he? What do the
cards say? Mysteries and more mysteries. Those were the
only answers. The card of death preceded by….? Which could
only mean rebirth….
Rei closed her eyes
as she held the cards for fortune telling. “Will you come back?”
she whispered, as if her request to him could be heard.
He sat by the crystal
ruins in Beryl’s old kingdom. Scanning each shard carefully, he wondered
whether these pieces could still fulfill their purpose. It is his duty
to impart to the other generals what he knows and fulfill the unfinished
mission he had left before. Then he decided to face her one last time.
He remembered what
happened earlier this morning. The cherry blossoms bloomed gloriously
in Hikawa Jinja and there she walked among them, more beautiful than all
cherry blossoms put together. When he finally got the courage to
approach her, he was astonished that she wasn’t that much surprised--as
if she was expecting him. He knew his place in Hikawa Jinja where
he would not be seen and where he could catch a glimpse of her for the
past four days just to … well, find out more about his memories.
This was the one day he chose to came out of his hiding place. She
couldn’t have possibly known where he was!
“At least tell me
your name,” she asked him.
Jadeite… princess….
“It’s not the right time,” he answered, instead.
“I’m getting impatient
of this… right time….” She frowned.
Jadeite smiled.
If she only knew his side, then her impatience would be an iota compared
to his.
She was surprised
at first. “Is there something funny?” That was the first time he
saw her smile.
Jadeite shook his
head. “I-I better leave.” His will was the most hesitant to
fight. He turned away from her because if he looked at her one more time,
he might shout his name aloud and tell her everything else that she wanted
to know!
“Please stay… onegai…
maybe we can help each other!”
But at that, he immediately
walked away from her and crunching his knuckles angrily, he used his power
to teleport. He tried to be satisfied with that brief meeting.
“Did you discover anything
that would help us, Jadeite?” It was Kunzite who spoke, interrupting
his thoughts.
Jadeite fixed his
gaze on the shards that lay on the floor and nodded.
“Well…?” Zoisite was
impatient. His return to the surface world was actually more productive
than anyone else’s possibly because he had seen up to the last time Beryl
sent him on a mission. Ray of crescents surrounded him and weakened
him, and he was close to fulfilling what she had asked him to do until
the very day his plan was thwarted. Now he wanted to know what caused
his downfall. “Tell us, Jadeite!”
But Jadeite was silent.
It was better before. Better that I didn’t remember who I really
am. Because then, I had another chance.. “I-I think…
I should tell you later after I return,” he decided and then put his fist
on his chest to ready for teleport.
“After your return?”
Zoisite was aghast. “You are going back to her! Why are you
obsessed with this woman when you don’t even know who she is?”
Jadeite smiled casually
before he can let his guard down and pretended not to be struck by Zoisite’s
words. “Obsessed with her? You must be kidding….”
“Spare us the suspense
and tell us—“
Kunzite signaled with
his hand and halted Zoisite’s impatience. “Please… Jadeite.”
Jadeite continued
to smile beneath his bewilderment. But there was nothing else he
can do. He sadly examined the shard in his hand and went towards
one side of Beryl’s throne. He touched the crystal ball that was
once Beryl’s view into the surface world. A flash of saffron light
glowed into a larger ray and there appeared the image of a young girl with
flowing raven hair and crimson cheeks. She was wearing her school
uniform. Kunzite wondered why Jadeite had avoided staring at her
image. He now understood his comrade’s obsession. She
was beautiful, all right, enough to cast this much power on Jadeite.
“What is this?” Nephrite
spoke. He felt a certain tinge of recognition on her image.
Jadeite then touched
the crystal and closed his eyes. Transporting his memory into the
crystal, the image of her suddenly changed. She was wearing a short
red skirt and red high heels. Her hands drew fire and she summoned
with such a vengeance that the viewing screen seemed ready to scorch all
of them!
Jadeite then withdrew
his hand from the crystal and bowed his head. The old image of her
returned… walking casually on the street. The generals were witnessing
what was happening right now on the surface world. The image continued
to reveal she was being joined by four other girls… Kunzite was astonished
to realize that he had met one of them before.
“I shouldn’t have
anything to do with her,” Jadeite declared. “She is our sworn enemy.”
“Sailor senshi….”
Nephrite whispered behind all his comrades’ gasps.
Nephrite reeled from
all the images that he saw. The surge of memories entered his head
all at once that he was lucky to have controlled all of them. However,
these were images of Beryl and some parts of the surface world, which he
could not pinpoint once he was there. All he knew was that he and
his fellow generals were without master or mistress. It seemed mutual
among them, though, that they will follow the old ways as Zoisite proudly
declared that he would go back to the surface world and defeat the sailor
senshi.
“You shall go and
defeat the sailor senshi?” Nephrite asked him. “Save for who we saw
earlier, we don’t even know where or who the others are.”
Zoisite smiled, as
if to jeer at him. “They are our sworn enemies, Nephrite. They’re
probably the ones who defeated us!”
For now, this made
perfect sense to Nephrite. They’ll have to follow the old ways, their
old mission because what else is there except that? He had told his
comrades earlier of his speculations that maybe it was Beryl who reawakened
them for this specific calling. And yet, although this seemed logical,
Nephrite felt that this was not right. “You’re going after her?
I don’t think Jadeite would allow you to even come near her!”
Zoisite grinned.
He pointed to the image of her comrade. The one whose azure hair
and eyes made her look all the more innocent and pensive. Her smile
had a sparkling gentleness and seeming timidity. “Jadeite seems to
remember everything about Beryl until his last mission. That girl
is also a sailor senshi. I know there are others, too but Jadeite
has only remembered two of them.”
Nephrite gasped.
Her, too? Then, there would be others....
“Don’t be so rash,
Zoisite. You shouldn’t battle with her immediately.”
“Of course, Nephrite!
Of course! You think I would rush into these quickly without thinking?”
Zoisite put his fist on his chest. His aura emitted a harsh white
glow as he readied to teleport to the surface world. “We should get
the Magical Silver Crystal at all costs. This will be the key to
our memories.”
Zoisite disappeared.
Nephrite gazed at the images that were made in the crystal ball.
“About the Magical
Silver Crystal’s power, Jadeite was not able to tell you, has the ability
to resurrect our great ruler… when the time comes, the Dark Kingdom will
rule the Earth! Nephrite remembered Beryl’s words. The
Magical Silver Crystal was powerful enough—enough to resurrect even Queen
Metallia!
In the meantime, the
lush foliage and blooming cherry blossoms surrounded Zoisite. He
replaced his uniform with normal clothes. His cape and his royal
garments would of course, attract great attention and he wouldn’t want
that. He had also donned on a respectable hat with a wide brim, which
should serve its purpose. She was sure to come around this time.
The clock said 4:00 and he would be fortunate to meeting her today because
she was never late.
Ami was prompt as
usual but she was casually walking in the shade without any hurry.
She cannot even believe it herself to cancel study time today. Usagi
pleaded so much to be allowed to go on a concert with Mamoru. Minako
seconded of course, just so to skip studying.
Zoisite recognized
her and he was up to the challenge. She seemed timid and easy.
It wouldn’t be difficult to confront this sailor senshi and he was sure
of himself. The first held the flames and she could hold the power
of the crescent that killed him. And she was heading towards him,
and he would walk past her and later talk to her. He had all this
planned. He had researched about her yesterday.
However, it wasn’t
necessary for Zoisite to call her attention because as soon as he passed
by her side, Ami felt a strange sensation coming over her. A mist
of remembrance or something like it. There were only two of them
on the sidewalk and this could only mean that either her or he brought
about the force. So Zoisite’s plan was ruined from the start because
he didn’t have to make the necessary introduction. She was already
staring at him in wonder.
“Huh?”
Ami blushed.
It was rude to stare at people you don’t know. The brim of his hat
covered his face and created more shadows on it. “Gomen nasai!”
she apologized immediately and turned to walk away.
Oh, no!
Zoisite turned and walked briskly towards her. But at her continued
surprise, he proceeded with his rehearsed introduction. “M-Mizuno
Ami…”
Ami halted at the
mention of her name. “Nani?” she asked. “What?”
“I have heard so much
about you. It is an honor to meet Juuban’s chess champion.”
Ami blushed again.
“I have only played
in three tournaments and one national. Would you care to accept a
challenge?”
Ami wasn’t sure how
this had all led on but she found herself seated in the park amidst the
lush foliage and already accepted his challenge! Maybe she wanted
to investigate what was it about him that triggered this sudden force when
he passed. She wasn’t sure of this stranger, at all, except for the
red in his lips and the gold in his wavy hair spilling on his shoulders.
“Shall we start, Mizuno-san?
This shouldn’t take long.”
But Zoisite was wrong
because that kind of arrogance only triggered Ami’s competitive spirit,
which he only knew long ago lay inside of her. He was one of the
few who had successfully tapped it. It took longer than expected
for him to capture her queen, but that meant sacrificing his bishop and
exposing his knight, which she of course, captured.
“Check!” Zoisite announced
happily. He was sure to win. Sure that soon, he would have
her in his favor. He would gain her trust and her humility.
He would gain the Crystal from her.
Ami stared long and
hard at the board and tried to see what became of her confident opponent.
He could be right. Check! It was right there. She saw
his lips form a smile and imagined his eyes to be looking at her with wild
arrogance, right now even as they were hidden from her view. She
held on to her bishop and grasped it tightly… Tightly… But it was
the knight she had moved, jumping from one ignored spot to another.
“Checkmate!”
Zoisite held on to
the queen she captured and grasped it with irritation. How could
he have lost? Impossible! He stared at her, expecting a victorious
grin, but instead, her wide eyes of azure had a certain peacefulness that
only lifted his anger. “Next time, then, Mizuno-san!” He said
at last. “This time, I let you win.”
Ami stood and bowed
graciously. “Gomen nasai!” she apologized. “But I thought
I was letting you win!”
Nephrite settled on
the grounds of Hikawa Jinja, awaiting the sailor senshi. It was time
that he moved. He didn’t remember being idle. They should retrieve
the Magical Silver Crystal from their enemy, the sailor senshi. Beryl’s
reasons of ruling the Earth by the Magical Silver Crystal didn’t make sense
to him now. However, there was no way that the senshi would give
the Crystal willingly as they did before. It was important to them
right now. It was the key to his memories.
In a twist of fate,
Nephrite saw the soldier he was seeking for. She had just climbed
the stairs without any doubt of what was to happen. Nephrite collected
his powers and from there, black energy surrounded a thin monstrous figure.
The youma (monster) seemed a grander episode than any of his peers
did create and Nephrite was a little hesitant to summon it.
“Rei-chan, matte!
(wait!)” Hino Rei was not alone, unfortunately.
Nephrite was surprised
from his uncalculated actions. He recognized the soldier’s new companion
from the globe he viewed the other day. Her chestnut curls were tied
in a high ponytail and she was smiling pleasantly. “Matte…´
Nephrite commanded his monster.
But upon seeing its
supposed target, the youma ignored the command of its master and
immediately leapt in front of the two wary women. Rei was surprised
that her instincts didn’t signal her of this situation but it was too late
to consider that now. She thought of her grandfather inside the building
and worried about his safety. “Ojii-san!” Rei cried.
“Go ahead, Rei-chan!”
Makoto commanded. “I shall take care of this!”
Rei was hesitant to
leave but there was no other way than what Makoto suggested. “Arigato,
Mako-chan!” she said and ran. “Ganbatte!”
From his hiding place,
Nephrite was surprised about what had happened. How could she leave
an ordinary girl to take care of a monster like this? But that was
not all that would astound him further, because right in front of his very
eyes, Makoto had called on her transformation. Bolts of electricity
surrounded her and altered her appearance altogether. What stood
in front of his youma was the same woman now wearing a short green skirt
and high-heeled boots. It was not the same garb as the ones he had
faced before, but he can’t deny who she is—a sailor senshi.
The youma ran
towards Sailorjupiter and pushed her forcefully. But she immediately
stood and with her bare hands, carried the monster over her head and hurled
him to the floor. Nephrite could immediately see the outcome of his
plans. He marveled at her strength and her bravery. He marveled
at her noble cause of saving her friend and the way she handled the battle.
He saw for himself how the strings of current enveloped her smoothly.
If he could only interfere and command the monster to stop, except that
would mean being discovered.
“I am the guardian
of Jupiter! Jupiter Oak Evolution!”
A clap of thunder
and strong flashes of lightning. An attack more ornate and more powerful
than the last he had seen. The youma screamed in pain as it was being
destroyed by the sailor senshi’s power. Nephrite, in the meantime,
clasped his chest in pain as though he too had felt the barrage of electricity
swallowing him and destroying him as well.
“I am the guardian of Jupiter! I call upon a storm! Jupiter Supreme Thunder and Lightning!”
“Jupiter….” Nephrite
whispered as he lay on his knees, unaware that his face was now visible
from his hiding place.
Sailorjupiter saw
him there and wondered who he was. “Are you alright?” she asked.
She ran towards his place and upon seeing his cape and the mask on his
face, halted with her suspicion. But there was something in him that
was quite familiar. And yet, feeling rather unsure of herself whether
he was friend or foe, she still knelt down before him and touched his shoulder.
He was in pain--this is the most important thing to consider.
“Let me help you.”
