In January of 1996, the Taki Corporation, in conjunction with Sega Enterprises of Japan, released to the Japanese market two videos about everyone's favorite hedgehog, Sonikku za Hejjihoggu. The two videos, Egguman Randohe Mukae (Journey to Eggmanland) and Sonikku vs Metaru Sonikku (Sonic vs. Metal Sonic) were animated by the same team who worked on the opening Little Planet animation sequence on Sonic CD. They cost ¥ 3,980 apiece. (Last I checked the Nikkei market, that's very roughly about US$35 each.) The two videos are half an hour each, with a special NiGHTS: Into Dreams sneak preview at the start of the first one. Copies of the Sonic Anime have made their way across the pond to America, and, whether bootlegged or bought, have delighted Sonic lovers in the USA and Europe with their smooth, action-packed animation and the well-thought out and acted plot.
...Well, here's a more detailed review with the ending and all...
Ay, but there's the rub! You'll have to go for the FOAF (Friend of a Friend) Method. Hopefully, you know a friend who has it, or maybe a friend of his who can get it through a friend.... someone who can get you a copy. Right now, a good handful of Sonime-owners are on the Net, and willing to make copies and mail them to you. All you have to do is find them. As far as I know, the Sonime is not yet officialy US-released, but it may be in limited distribution over on the West Coast. If you can work the Net and find yourself a contact, you can get the Sonime with a minimum of back-breaking! Good luck to you on finding it!
