Cops come to arrest Zander for the murder he tried to frame Emily for and he takes her hostage at gun point... Let the romance begin!
(Quote from when they first spoke!)
Zander: “Do you go to many raves?”
Emily: “Uh, I've only been to one.”
Zander: “Did you have a good time?”
Emily: “Could've been better.”
Zander: “Maybe this one will. You know, but to actually have a really good time, you have to go inside.”
Emily: "You're a liar. You drugged me up, you took off my clothes, and you left me in the bed with that dead guy, and then you put a syringe in my arm and made it look like I killed him when you did!"
Emily: “So tell me -- I've never been kidnapped before -- the fact that it's not in the paper, is that a good sign or a bad sign?”
Zander: “Look, I have never kidnapped anyone, either.”
Emily: “Are you going to shoot your way out with a gun? It's not going to work. Didn't you ever see "Thelma & Louise"?”
Zander: “I don't watch chick movies.”
Emily: “Huh. Yeah, well, they die in the end.”
(Zander sees Emily struggling to get out of her wrist bonds)
Zander: “You're wasting your energy. The first badge I got in Boy Scouts was knot tying”.
Emily: “How'd you do in kidnapping?”
Zander: “Have I hurt you?”
Emily: “You kidnapped me, you drugged me, you killed a cop!”
Emily: “That's really smart. Well, why don't you start shooting your way out of here and get in more in trouble than you already are?”
Zander: “Oh, so, what, you think I should give myself up? Forget it!”
Emily: “Zander, there's got to be a better way to get out of here, OK, instead of getting someone killed or yourself killed”
Zander: “All right, down the hall. Come on, there's a window.”
Emily: “What? What's wrong?”
Zander: “Come on, you first.”
Emily: “Any particular reason?”
Zander: “Call me traditional.”
Emily: “What, you really think that I'm going to run down and start screaming to the sheriff the minute you go out the window?”
Zander: “All right, there's that.”
Emily: “I had my chance to run and I didn't.”
Zander: “All right, call me a raging paranoid, OK? Humor me, all right?”
Emily: “Great. So my parents can just presume that I'm dead.”
Zander: “Look, I'm sorry, all right? I'm doing the best I can. I didn't go to kidnapper school.”
Emily: “I just wish they knew I was all right.”
Zander: “How's your wrist?”
Emily: “Fine. Can I at least give them a call?”
Zander: “Oh, yeah, so they can trace the phone call? Are you sure you didn't hurt your wrist on the way out that window?”
Emily: “If my family hears that I have stitches, they're going to think I'm being tortured.”
Zander: “Good.”
Emily: "Good!?!?"
Zander: “Look, I'm supposed to be dangerous.”
Emily: “Zander, I have friends and family who are worried sick right now. Believe it or not, I have people who love me. If you could let me send them a post card or something…”
Zander: “Oh, yeah, a post card would blow my entire act. I need them to be scared for your life.”
Emily: “Sorry. I didn't go to hostage school.”
Zander: “I love chocolate. I was hoping that you'd be willing to trade.”
Emily: “For what? Grape pixie sticks! Right on. Yes! Ah.”
Zander: “Do you know how bad that stuff is for you? I mean, pure sugar and chemicals.”
Emily: “Mmm. Mmm. You know, you're a drug dealer, and you're trying to tell me that pixie sticks are bad for you? Come on.”
Zander: “Hey, I sold drugs. I never did them.”
Emily: “Uh-huh.”
Zander: “And I would never be so sick as to put something so unhealthy in my mouth.”
Emily: “Want to try one?”
Zander: ….
Emily: “Try one.”
Zander: ”No, thank you”
Emily: “I'm serious. If you really want to –“
Zander: “No. It's all right.”
Emily: “They're really good. Open your mouth. Here.”
Zander: “No, it's ok”
.
Emily: “Are you sure? “
Zander: “No, I'm all right.”
Emily: “Ok.”
Zander: “Sick. Quit it.”
Emily: “Just open your mouth. Come on!”
Zander: “That stuff's nasty.”
Emily: “Whee! What's the problem why'd you make me stop?”
Zander: “I'd like to make it to my next birthday, if that's all right with you.”
Emily: “Look, I just want to get us to the border as quick as possible.”
Zander: “Look, you were going almost 95 back there.“
Emily: “You're not very brave for a kidnapper.”
Zander: "Hey -- we get caught, you go home. I get the death penalty."
Zander: “Well, I sold drugs. I didn't do them.”
Emily: “But why?”
Zander: “Well, you know, the thing with money is you can always -- you can always use some more, you know? But if it makes any difference, dealing drug -- it was the worst mistake I ever made.”
Emily: “And sticking a gun in my side and kidnapping me was, what, the third, fifth, 27th?”
Emily: “You're a good person who's made bad mistakes.”
Zander: “No, you're the good person.”
Emily: “Right. Right.”
Zander: “You know, I never met anybody like you. You know, if we had met in different circumstances in a different time, you know…”
Zander: “I know one thing. I'm going to miss you.” [Zander coughs]
Emily: “I can't believe this is happening.”
Emily: “Zander, I can't do this anymore.”
Zander: “Hey, I'll keep you entertained. I know a lot of lame jokes. Um -- we can sing ‘99 bottles of beer on the wall’…”
Emily: "I tell myself he's a dealer who shoved a gun in my side and wouldn't let me go home. So why am I worried about him? I just am. That's why I was so distracted tonight. I don't think Juan noticed. Juan says I can tell him anything. But not this, even though it really matters to me. Does that mean I don't love him?"
Song In Background:
Don't have to stay with someone that makes you cry
Makes you cry
You'll end up killing all the love you have inside
Can't hope to see the sun if you don't open your eyes
Don't let real love pass you by
I know you know this but take it from me
You'll end up killing all the love you have inside
It's hard to see the sun if you don't open your eyes
Girl, don't let real love pass you by
Don't let real love pass you by
You don't have to stay with someone that makes you cry
Emily: “What are you doing here? Hey -- what are you doing here?”
Zander: “Uh -- well, first, to deliver these.”
Emily: “You came all the way from canada, you risked your life, to bring me candy?”
Zander: “Well, also I never really got a chance to say, you know, a real good-bye. And, besides, I -- I figured out that I really don't want to say good-bye. So I came back for you.”
Emily: “Zander, look, I already got you out of trouble once with the police and with sorel. Why would you risk coming back here and getting arrested or something worse?”
Emily: “Well, you know, it gets a little lonely out there on the road. Especially every time you go in a convenience store, all you can think of is pixie sticks. Um -- look, I know this is out there, but I came back to ask you if you'd come with me.”
Emily: “Zander, you're -- you're wanted by the f.B.I. And the police for kidnapping.”
Zander: “I know. I know, I know, I know, I know. This is crazy. I just -- I just -- I miss you. I -- I just -- I can't stop thinking about you. I mean, I think of all the times that you could've escaped but you didn't. I mean, you stayed with me.”
Emily: “You saved my life twice.”
Zander: “So come with me”
Zander: “Come with me.”
Emily: “Zander, I can't.”
Zander: “If you don't, you'll never know.”
Emily: “Know what?”
Zander: “What could've happened. We'll spend the rest of our lives asking ourselves, "what if." Come on. Let's find out.”
Emily: “Maybe I have that weird thing -- you know, Stockholm Syndrome -- where you feel concted to your captor.”
Zander: “Is that how you think of me, still, as just your captor? I mean, because you are much more than a hostage to me. You're the only friend -- a real friend -- maybe the only one I got.”
Emily: “Listen to me, OK? You need to get out of here right now, OK? You got to get back to Canada.”
Zander: “Wait. You didn't answer me.”
Emily: “I can't come with you.”
Zander: “No. I mean, when you think of me, is what you think, "Yeah, zander, that guy that kidnapped me"? Is that all I am to you?”
Emily: “Zander, you have to leave now.”
Zander: “Not until you answer my question.”
Emily: “You know that I -- I don't think of you as a kidnapper, ok? You know that. My life is here. My school, my friends. Most importantly, my family. I mean, they almost lost their minds when I left. Zander, I know that they fight a lot and they're kind of out of their minds, but they love me a lot. I cannot leave again. I can't do that to them.”
Zander: “Hey -- you really -- you're really not, you know, feeling that way because of the Stockholm Syndrome thing, are you?”
Emily: “No.”
Zander: “Ok, good.”
Zander: “I wish I'd have been the one that met you at that rave instead of Ted. I wish- I'd have gotten you out of there. I mean, I'd have taken care of you.”
Emily: “I wish it was that way, too.”
Zander: “My luck has turned around a lot lately.”
Emily: “Are you completely insane?”
Zander: “I thought we'd already established that.”
Emily: “Do you want to go to jail?”
Zander: “Look, I want -- I want a slice of October pie.”
Emily: “Excuse me?”
Zander: “Yeah, you know, made with concord grapes and it's kind of like pixie sticks, but, you know, hot and baked in crust.”
Emily: “Ok, you're being chased by, like, a whole bunch of people and you're thinking about pie right now?”
Zander: “Hey, whoa, it's not just pie. I mean, this is October pie we're talking about. Come on, listen to the name. It's magic.”
Emily: “What am I going to do with you?”
Zander: “Have dinner. Come on, my treat.”
Emily: “You don't have any money.”
Zander: “All right, look, after we celebrate, I'll take off.”
Emily: “Celebrate what?”
Zander: “You and me. Whatever it is. Whatever it was. It was great. Look, have pie with me, and I will go. Come on, do we have deal?”
Zander: “Emily, when you were my hostage, that was the best part of my life. So far.”
Emily: “I'm not sorry for anything, either.”
Zander: “And I'll probably never see you again.”
Emily: “Well, you have my e-mail address and my home address, so just -- just let me know you're OK.”
Zander: “I'll never forget you.”
Emily: “Zander? I won't forget you, either.”
Lucky: “You couldn't stay in canada, could you?”
Emily: “You guys, get off of him!”
Lucky: “What do you want?”
Taggert: “It's the police! Hey, Zander, freeze! Freeze! Freeze! Way to go, gentlemen. Looks like we've finally got ourselves a cop killer here.”
