About Barbershop Quartets
The "Barbershop Quartet" is an original American l style of male vocal
singing. The typical type of song in this barbershop style ranges from
tender love
ballads to funny songs about nothing.
One of the most unique musical effects in the barbershop style is that the melody is
usually sang by the person singing "lead". Interestingly, the
"lead" voice is second from the top voice with a light (falsetto-based) tenor
sing above and the baritone and bass vocalists respectively singing below the lead.
I have had the fortune to sing barbershop since my high school days in the late 1980s
and early 1990s. While I haven't always sang barbershop faithfully along the years, I
have found the Barbershop Quartet an excellent medium for writing expressive songs.
Particularly, expressive songs about love.
