Simon Wright has been Chorus Master since 1975.
He is Organist at Ampleforth Abbey and Musical Director and Principal Conductor of both the Britten Singers and the City of York Guildhall Orchestra. His reputation as a conductor is now established and his discography includes recordings on which he conducts the Philharmonia Orchestra and the Wallace Collection. He conducts two of the three concerts the Festival Chorus promotes each season. He also has an international reputation as an organ soloist. He writes musical arrangements for the Wallace Collection and other groups (he also writes some very amusing arrangements of popular Christmas songs for LFC!). But above all he keeps the choir working hard and having fun at rehearsals with his lively combination of instruction, banter and musical jokes.
