Tips & Tricks on Singing
Pict: The wrong way.Singing has a lot to do with correct breath techniques. First your body has to stand in the upright position, with your back straightened and leaning a bit forward. Put your feet approx. 15 cm. apart. Try to stand up as relaxed as possible, tilt your pelvis a bit forward, release your shoulders and make room to breathe by putting your breast upward (WITHOUT pulling your shoulders upwards!!). Breathe by using your midriff from the belly, don't use your breast muscles.
The best way to determine if you have the correct kind of breathing is by doing this exercise: Lie down on your back and place a heavy object (a book) on your belly.
Try to lift the object by breathing in and out.

Pict: The right way.You also can practice by standing up, placing your hands in your sides and breathe in while pushing your hands into your sides. You have to feel tension there. Try to stand as upright as possible, keep your windpipe as straight as possible, do not nod your head. Let the air stream out freely.
Make an "oo" sound, relax your jaw muscles and breathe from your belly. Make room in your mouth by pulling up your uvula and make the upper part of the mouth-cavity as big as possible (see second picture). If you don't do that the sound you produce doesn't resonate in your mouth and will be much weaker and has less body (see first picture). Put a slight smile on your face, raise your eyebrows and relax the tongue and the lower part of your face.

Golden rules: The breathing must NOT be visible by the shoulders. Breathing in and out must NOT be heard. The position of the body must be correct. The head must be straight up.
