Organ of Notre-Dame de Melun

A short history and specification

The instrument was built for the music room of the singer Pauline Viardot and installed in 1851. She had it moved to Baden Baden (to sing to the king of Prussia) and then Bouigeval. It was acquired for and installed in Notre-Dame circa 1895. A Voix Humaine was added to the Grand Orgue. A restoration was undertaken c 1954 in which the divided reeds were made into whole stops, the Dessus de Bourdon replaced with a Nasard 2 2/3 and the 1895 Voix Humaine replaced with a Cromorne. Further information can be found in Musical Opinion July 1969.
