old news
5th July 2001

What am I up to at the moment? Well I've been working as the receptionist for the Housing Corporation for the last few weeks, which has been ok. The people at work are nice, I just get some weirdos coming in or ringing up, and have been asked out by a few weirdos this past week as well!! Rob has also finally started a job this week, and it is seeming to be as cushy as his other jobs have been. Today his boss is taking him out for lunch and drinks to welcome him to the team! I'm finishing up work on Friday because Jane and Dad are arriving in London and I'm going to run around London with them for a few weeks! Jane and I are jetting off to Derry in Northern Ireland for a few days on Monday (we have to get a coach at 4:30am to get to the airport for our flight!!) which should be an experience....

I also had a near brush with Madonna... well not quite but I was going to get to work at the bar for her concerts, but I ended up missing out. Needless to say I was very disappointed when I was told I couldn't do it, especially as I don't have £200 - £800 to spare to get a ticket from somewhere! Grrrrrrr!

In other exciting news, the Hammersmith hovel that I live in (the hostel) has been without hot water for the last couple of days so I've been having cold showers, which isn't all that bad considering how hot it's been lately, but it's pretty pathetic, the front desk dudes don't reckon it will be fixed for another couple of days so there have been some very angry people (including Rob) downstairs yelling at them. Now that it's summer there are lots of parties coming up, farewells, toga parties, bbq's etc etc etc...

It's been so hot and humid lately that travelling to work on the Tube can be a total nightmare in peak hours as there is no air-conditioning or ventilation or anything. Maybe the Brits have a penchant for asphyxiation... I don't know. The other day 4 trains broke down behind each other and 4,000 people were stuck in the underground tunnels for 90 minutes with no air!! That would be my worst nightmare!!!

On that happy note, I'll leave it here, and continue working on my diary of Spain.
