Bach Page - Music by the Master

Whew! You got all the way down here. Let me tell you, there's a lot of work involved in building a website. Especially a personal site like this, that can be expected to evolve over time.

Initially, I used the page assemblers available at Geocities, but I also followed the source code too. I didn't like the way some page assemblers added unneeded code into the page and so I decided to follow the advice of the NotePad people and learn to write HTML in the raw.

I usually build at least the working framework of a page using NotePad to write the code and InternetExplorer4 to display the page. (Save, refresh, save, refresh.) And I usually have Paint (.bmp) and PhotoEnhancer (.jpg, .tif, .bmp) going too.

Then I upload the page to Geocities, along with all the MIDI, images, and other files, that have been assembled to that point. From there I use the Geocities Advanced Editor, which is very similar to NotePad.

I find it takes a month or two for the page to settle down, designwise, and it may get just an occasional update from there on.

When I started this site I didn't have a plan, I just thought it would be a cool thing to do. I had been playing with MIDI for several years and had quite a few classical files completed. It seemd a natural source of content, something I could use to build an interesting page quickly.

I began to see early on that some things worked for me, and some didn't. Oh sure, I tried this and that, animated gifs, embedded MIDI, some JAVA effects, but I didn't like the hassle of waiting for that stuff to load.

I began to organize my files, and in the back of my mind there began to grow a plan, a progression from page designer to site designer to web designer.

Of course I was totally unprepared for the reality of the web. I exchanged emails, I got on ICQ. My interests and directions changed with every impact: new friends, new ideas, cool sites. Teddybears, butterflies, flowers, hugs, flames, sharing joys and sorrows with friends the world over.

So this site is the result, a balance of The Plan (order) and The Web (chaos). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
