A native of Japan, Takuya received his BM in Violin Performance
from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1988 and his
MM from the Juilliard School in 1991. After graduating from the Juilliard
School, he moved to Kansas City and received an Orchestra Concertmaster
Fellowship from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. While in
Kansas City, he appeared in many concerts of soloists including the KC
Camerata's opening and gala concert for its 1993-94 season and at the Missouri
Music Educatiors Association Conference with the UM-KC Conservatory Orchestra.
In 1994, he moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he performed regularly with
the Lexington Philharmonic and the Niles String Quartet at the University
of Kentucky. The Quartet became a prizewinner in the Yellow Springs
Chamber Music Competition in Ohio in 1995.
He has participated in many summer music festivals, including a tour with
the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra under the baton of Rostropovich,
Menuhin, Kitajenko and Eschenbach in Europe.
Mr. Horiuchi now makes his home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he serves as
the Concertmaster of the Cedar Rapids Symphony and teaches at the Symphony
School.
