WELCOME TO MY DAY..

IT IS NICE TO HAVE YOU SHARE IT WITH ME...

HATTIESBURG, MISSISSIPPI,
US OF A !!,

Well, I didn't expect to find myself still here in Hattiesburg, packing to come home..(IF I ever get John's computer working as he wants it...)

Bourbon St., New Orleans And with only side trips to New Orleans to report on, later..

I've spent a lot more than I planned to, of course, and stayed longer...
Hiring a car is the biggest expense, really, since one cannot transfer one's insurance to the USA and the full comprehensive insurance costs more each day than does the car..
But consider the alternatives....lots of really expensive cars out there to run into in this Land Of Litigation!
But my Cavalier cruised without a hiccup and took me lots of places in a superb driving environment, and I was almost tearful when my nice young Enterprise friend drove her around the corner and out of sight!

Turtle Creek Mall, Hattiesburg, MS Shopping here has been superb...I've bought clothes for myself and most of my family at the sales and packed it all home express delivery and STILL saved money...the fabrics, especially the cottons, are better quality than we get in Australia, the garments more generously cut, and better finished...and the range and variety are incredible!!
And remember, this is supposed to be a SMALL town!
Though one can see how the input of capital from the coastal casinos has really pushed this economy along..

Not to mention providing some interesting floorshows!!

But even the BX and PX shopping made my eyes open wide..more like huge department stores than military provenders, and with their own mini fleamarkets and craft stalls at weekends..

BX, Keesler Base, Biloxi, MS BX, Keesler Base, Biloxi, MS

And there are so many reasonably priced "All you can eat" dineout places, with really superb food that one can see why so many kitchens go so often unused...
I've eaten catfish while watching racoons climb trees , and acquired a taste for Okra in cornmeal, marvelled at how many food items can be battered and deepfried, leanrned to eat unbuttered sandwiches, and eaten more sugar in 9 weeks than in my whole life, I think!!

Oh, and organized myself an American hairdo, which MAY just be the best Wash-and-Wear Perm I have ever had....AND without an appointment!!.....

I stayed almost two weeks at John's house and made friends with his wife, his dogs, and his grandchildren..and made SOME progress with teaching him to cook, but not a lot at teaching him how his computer, elaborately set up in his rec. room, works, or how to use it for more than chatting, his attention span, you might say, being a bit..er..limited.....

Then, after another weekend at Keesler Airforce base, and more casino visits, I moved to the fairly new Comfort Suites here, and I think Marriot may have lost me as a regular guest, gold card and all!

The units are only half the price of Residence Inns, and this one, at least, presents a friendly, stressfree ambience, as well as being very well furnished, with frig, sink and microwave, a superb bathroom, a sleeper- couch and desk with datapoint phone..and two other phones..an iron and board , and linen changed daily on a very comfortable King Sized bed.....
Which John used to test most lunchtimes, when he called to see that I was not becoming bored or needing help with anything...

Sniffer dog and handler, MS Course...I've seen some other sides of American life, too...but more about all that, and about New Orleans, which deserves an episode to itself, of course, in the next chapters..which, hopefully will be put together in Australia, despite this being the hurricane season, and 1000 flights already cancelled!...

And for all the friends I am leaving behind in America,
this midi is for Y'all, and Y'all have a naice dayee, now, y'heear?
And John, most special friend of all,
for when you get that sound system up and running again,
this special version of the sentiment is for you, and sincerely meant...
This has been a quite extraordinary experience...thank you!!

And I'll keep you posted!

Love to everyone over 50,and everyone on our side! -from
..Robin
