Hello, my name is Freya Owlsdottir. Please be welcome to my hearth.

Owl's Rest is intended to be a cyber refuge for the Solitary Practioner.

I'm a hereditary hearth witch and tend to follow my own path, so you won't find the charge of the Goddess here. If you're curious as to what I mean by hearth witch it's really quite simple. I'm the one my family and friends come to when they want their tarot cards read but they can't really admit their interested or even believe. I'm the one my friends in the craft call for a spell or a potion when they need to make a change in their lives and they aren't sure how to do it themselves. A Hearth witch practices kitchen table magic, dispensing as many cups of tea and I hope (with the grace and gifts of the goddess) sound advice as simple elixers and simple charms.

I use the word hereditary not because my mother or grandmother worked the way I do. It seems I don't have the normal family gift of speaking to the dead. I don't mean sceanes or spiritualism -- I mean my family routinely sees and talks to the dearly departed -- that includes the men as well as the women -- and my cousins as well as my mother.

Maybe what I'm eluding to is more hereditary psychism than religious practice, but my mother raised me with the stories of the little people (brownies - was her word) that she saw around the house and down by the lake when she was a child so I've always know the world was larger than just our five senses.

Why am I building this site? (I say building, since at the rate I'm going it will never be done). The answer is that I'm interested in having people compare my experiences to their's and letting me know how their's was either the same or different. For someone who is basically right brained I'm cursed with an overly analytical brain, so I always want to know why something works.. what's it's core essense. How much ritual is necessary to influence the warp and woof of the cosmos and how much of our spells is simply "eye of newt" revisted?

Obviously I have my own opinions on these questions and you'll find "said opinions" liberally sprinkled through out these pages. Feel free to disagree Even better tell me why you disagree and what event or concept influence you to see things in a different way.
