My Astrological New Year
January 16, 1998
Normally I try and do something to mark this day, especially when it falls on a friday, (the day I was born on and sacred to my namesake Goddess Freya). This year I was simply too busy to do anything except flop into bed. Not that that had any impact on things. Much to my suprise Freya came to me in my dream and said she was very happy with the fact that I had chosen Freya Owlsdottir as my craft name and that it was with her blessing. Silly, silly me. Why is it that part of me is still so left brain that I'm surprised when this happens? One important significance of this fact is that it did confirm for me the answer to one of my questions -- whether or not we really had a soul name, which was different from our craft name.A soul name is a name, word or concept (seems people have different opinions on the subject), that represents the us that has continued from life to life. This name is one that is not to be revealed (I don't know why not -- maybe if I keep asking I'll get an answer). The craft name is simply what we all us it for. A name that reflects who and what we are within the Pagan community while protecting our identity from those who simply couldn't begin to understand.
I'm not sure why this was the message for this New Year. Obviously I've been working on this site (and regreting that all of my notes for the last 10 years are hand written and not typed) but Freya's presence and demeanor seemed to signify much, much more than simply a nodding glance of approval. I also strongly got the impression that this was to be the year of the Snowy Owl.
Every year I assign the full moons to particular animals. In addition to my usual totems an animal choses to walk with me. Last year it was the Otter. I'm unsure whether what I heard was it was just the owl this year or that it would be the owl and something else.
