Melissa Etheridge - The Only One
Lesbian Resources
I've been out for just over five years now, and have
reached the rather unusual position of being a Lesbian Feminist
Christian. Anyone who wants to know about my journey to
reconcile these two equally important aspects of myself can start
here... and read my story.
One thing that has helped me was a leaflet from the Metropolitan Community Church which I have typed in for anyone who wants to read it.
I would like to announce as well that I am also happily working on a long term relationship with my girlfriend whom I love very much indeed.
And here's a few of my favourite lesbian and gay pages for any activists out there. I've tried to organise them under very loose headings, which should make it easier to find what you're looking for.
Links and Resources
Same Sex Marriage Links
Because of the immigration situation with myself and my partner (she's American, so it is very hard for us to be together) this is a subject close to my heart. I sincerely hope that one day, US government will recognise our love as real and valid, and let us live together. Until then, these organisations deserve our time and support and money!
Links for Gay and Lesbian Christians
This is still in the process of being compiled.. but here are a few of my bookmarked sites:
I'll start with a plug for my own spiritual journey
Bridges Across - a wonderful, brave, God-filled project aiming to facilitate discussions between Christians on the issue of homosexuality. Well worth visiting.
Christian Lesbians ONLINE has lots of information, and a really good link/resource collection too.
#GayChristians - the Undernet IRC Channel's Page
Rev Dr Jim Bilbrey's Care Page. A straight guy with a GREAT attitude, and some cool links too.
Dr. Niclas Berggren's collection of essays and links. Lots of good stuff here.
Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches - nuff said.
Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Catholic Handbook takes a while to load, but has great info, and is well worth reading, catholic or not.
Ex Ex Gay - gives information on the Ex-Gay Christian movements such as Exodus. Lots of personal stories. Aug 4th - this page seems to be down, with only the index page working.
Whosoever - an online journal for lesbian, gay and bisexual Christians ..updated monthly, and well worth a read. Check out Issue 4 for Ex-Ex Gay stuff.
Prism Ministries - read the story of an outed Lutheran minister, and admire her courage in carrying on.
Turn Out's "Know thy enemy: Common Arguments of the Radical Right. Answers to some of the commonly used arguments.
Organisations and the like..
"Culture"
One day I'll write and html-ise the essay I have in my head detailing the uncanny parallels between the hardcore gay "queer" culture, and the Evangelican Christian sub-culture... the accepted ways of dressing, speaking, behaviour.. the specific magazines you're supposed to read, music you listen to, festivals you go to.. the suspicion of anything from "outside" that is either non-christian or heterosexual depending where you are. Until then, this list of gay-related sub-culture sites will have to do.
