"Middle Age is not for wimps!"

Ah, only a couple of weeks since my last entry. Guess I'm improving on making more frequent visits to the blog, eh? *G* It's my busiest time of year at the office; I'm on a quick break right now and decided to do an update while unwinding a bit. Let's see, what shall I write about? Well, I could tell you that on May 9 my fiancee and I moved into an apartment together. So far, it's going well. There have been adjustments to make, of course, but we haven't choked each other yet, so that's a plus, don't you think? *LOL* I'd lived in my old place ten years, so you can imagine how much STUFF I'd accumulated. I'm just now beginning to think I may finally get rid of all the cardboard boxes. Everything's pretty well unpacked except the second bedroom, which I've renamed "The Computer Room". All that's in there is my computer, bookcases, file cabinets, and such. Not to mention a big ol' pile of unpacked boxes full of books, files, etc. Oh, well, I'll get it all done eventually. Gotta go back to work now.

No entry for the past several months because I'm terrible at keeping diaries of any sort, apparently. *LOL* Well, now, there's lots to catch up on since my last entry. Turns out that Jimmy hadn't exactly worked through all his issues after all those years. Oh, well. It was fun while it lasted.
The breakup was very unexpected on my part, and I had a tough time dealing with it. Thankfully, that's behind me now, and I'm in another relationship that's going MUCH better. *knocking on wood for luck*

No entry yesterday due to a vicious intestinal virus....*no further details necessary*....BLEAH!
Now, more about my boyfriend, Jimmy. Jimmy and I dated 18 years ago; he was my first serious relationship after my divorce. Each of us had issues; we had each gone through a bad divorce and had our respective scars. We dated for over a year, then went our separate ways. Some years after we'd split up, I heard he'd remarried. So, even though he still meant a lot to me, I resigned myself to the fact that he'd moved on and made a life with someone new.
Though I was resigned to that fact, I still never found another man who could make me happy. So, I further resigned myself to learning to live alone.
Then, on May 31 of this year, I received a very unexpected phone call from him. He'd been divorced (again) for about three years, and said he'd been looking for me for a long time. Unfortunately, he'd been looking for me under my ex-husband's name, and I'd long since resumed using my maiden name. Luckily, he happened to mention to a man we'd previously worked with that he was looking for me, and the former workmate told him where I now work and that I was using my maiden name. Jimmy called my office, but he happened to call on an afternoon that I wasn't working. (I still have his call saved on my voicemail, nearly 5 months later....how "high school" is THAT? *LOL*) That night, having found a listing under my maiden name in the phone listings, he called me at home. A week later we went out on our first date together in nearly 17 years, and we've been seeing each other ever since.

A weblog, for crying out loud. Why am I starting a weblog? I wouldn't even keep a diary when I was a kid, and it had a LOCK on it. Oh, well, since no one's signed my guestbook in over two years, this is probably more private than my diary was. *LOL*
So, what shall I write in this weblog? Well, for those of you just tuning in, I guess I'll tell you that I'm 48, female, and the mother of a nearly 29-year-old daughter who's known online as Sunny. Sunny was complaining about her age one day, and I told her that there are worse things than being nearly 30 years old. She asked "What?" I said, "You could have a KID who's nearly 30 years old. That's WORSE." *ROTF*
Sunny's had some health problems (see "Sunny's Battle" for details), but is currently doing pretty well. The only big exception to that is a problem with recurring ear infections; in fact, her right eardrum ruptured last Friday night.
As for me, I'm in pretty good health except for the fact that I'm a Type II diabetic. Currently, I've got my glucose under control with diet, exercise, and a morning dose of Actos. I'm hoping my doctor will reduce my medication when I go back to him for a checkup next month. My fasting glucose levels have been dropping a little lower than he thought they would, so my guess is that he'll lower my dosage.
I've been divorced for a very long time (nearly 19 years). I have a boyfriend (do you still call them "boy"friends if they're 56 years old and have grandchildren? *LOL*). He's a terrific man, and I'll certainly write more about him, but this entry is beginning to ramble on. So, I think I'll close for today and write more later. Maybe if I don't try to write an epic every day I'll be better about writing more often. :-)
