My job....
Ok.. deep breath. Be brave. Say it...
Promise not to laugh.. cause it doesn't really suit me!
I'm an accountant.
There it is. Phew! That was hard. The image of boring people with heavey rimmed glasses comes to mind, doesn't it.
However I have the best of both worlds.
I work at a
Christian primary school, which caters for children aged 5 - 13. I love it. I
liken my job to being a grandparent. I get to talk to them, share with them, laugh
with them, stir them up, and then send them back to their classrooms when I've had enough.
My job ... well, it's all the day to day figure work for
the school, government returns, fees, all that type of thing. I get a lot of parent
contact, do a bit of counselling.. but it's never the same there. Every day is
different.
I've been there
for nearly nine years now, and love it just as much as when I first started.
The other plus apart from the students is that I
work with a wonderful group of very professional people who know how to enjoy themselves.
Yes, the school is a church school. It doesn't have it's own web page YET, but we plan one soon!
I am also a bit involved in Enterprise Bargaining.
No.. I'm not a union person, but I believe they have their place. I'm on the
Employees Reference Group for my state, which means a few meetings (understatement) now
and then, and a lot of headaches, but it's also complimenting my knowledge in my actual
work at the school.
