December 20th

Well, it seems the GeoPops have finally invaded Wellesley, but only after we've been given a way out of them. (You have to have the "new and improved" GeoGuide (yes, they've changed those on us!) on your pages to keep the GeoPops from showing up.) That was nice, since I really wasn't looking forward to yanking my pages off and finding someplace else to host them. It just happens that I didn't get the new GC World Report until this morning, after I'd gone through and republished all my updated pages yesterday. *sigh* No free lunches, but if you work a little, it's not too bad, I guess.

The one thing I don't like about these new GeoGuides is that you not only have to put the code on your pages, but once you upload them, you have to go into the new "GeoGuide Manager" and turn the guide on on that page. Argh!!! What it actually does is take your page and generate some extra code on it wherever you have the GeoGuide set. The bad thing about this for me is that I actually have to update four pages each time I add a new entry: the front page, the index, the previous entry, and the new entry. Gotta sing for your supper, you know. Depending on how annoying this turns out to be, I may just find a new place to host my site anyway.

Of course the "new" GeoGuides mean none of your old GeoGuides work, and they have this awful almost-red-and-green banner on your pages in place of the old guide. And the new guide sticks all kinds of extra code on your pages. *sigh* The new guide also includes banners in which "In addition to homesteader banners, messages from GeoCities and its' sponsors will be featured." My only question is, "Why didn't they do this with the original GeoGuide?" They had the space for smaller banners... Sheesh! Oh well... anyway, my site is all updated now, with the new guides, and once I get this page published and posted, I'll have to trek over to the GeoGuide Manager (at least they put a link on the FileManager page) and turn on the guide here, and on the other updated pages.

Now the question remains, do I want my own banner to show up on other sites? Of course I do! But what do I want on my banner? *think* *think* *think* Guess it's time to fire up good ol' Paint Shop Pro. TTYL...
