Putting Things Back Together
April 6, 1998
Sorry for my long absence... Friday I decided to kill windows and reinstall, and I spent most of the weekend tweaking and reinstalling. Still have lots of software I haven't put back on, and I'm going to have to fiddle with Frontier today to tell it the ZIP drive 'moved' (it didn't, it just got assigned to G instead of F), but I have the basics, and I can install the rest as I need it.
I went to Wal-Mart today and picked up the photographs Jev and I had taken while he was here. Mom wanted to see them, and she liked them. Now I just have to figure out which to send to Jevim and how to get some of them scanned.
I made the mistake this past weekend of misremembering Connie's birthday. *sigh* For some reason, I was thinking it was on the third instead of the fifth, and that was the day I spent reinstalling everything on the computer, and I never saw her online or got around to sending her an e-card. Saturday, I guess I got so caught up in other stuff, it never crossed my mind, and then last night she was on IRC and I told her I was still working on her present and it was going to be late.
She said that a birthday wish would have sufficed, and so I said "Happy Belated Birthday," thinking her birthday had been Friday. She said no, it wouldn't be belated until the next day, and I apologized and wished her a happy birthday again. Jev did too, and all of a sudden she suddenly had to go. She said goodnight, and left without the usual hugs and such, so I get the impression she was upset with me, and I felt like crap.
I had been going to take a bath once the movie I was watching was over, but after Connie did her disappearing act, I really didn't feel like doing anything, so Jev and I chatted a bit, then he excused himself for a few minutes and I wound up filling the tub for a bath after all. Took my cordless phone with me and talked to him for a bit, then after my bath I crawled in bed and tried to read a bit of my C++ book. One of these days, I'd like to actually get through it, y'know?
Anyway, here it is, Monday afternoon. I have an appointment with the urologist tomorrow down in Columbia, and I'm not looking forward to it. Hopefully she will not want anything more than a normal x-ray and a blood test. If she wants to do another IVP (intraveinous pyelogram: radio opaque dye in your veins and lots of x-rays), I'm gonna be stubborn and say no way unless she has some evidence that I actually have another kidney stone.
I hate IVPs, they screw my system up for three or four days, not to mention being uncomfortable laying on an x-ray table for an hour, and being punctured a few times (which usually leads to bad bruises that linger for a couple weeks). Besides which, I don't think I need to be exposed to that much radiation without a damned good reason. Last time they must have taken at least 20 x-rays before they finally let me out to my appointment with the doctor. Why so many? Presumably because they couldn't find the stone, which was gone.
Yes, I am not looking forward to tomorrow. I'm half tempted to cancel my appointment when the automatic reminder system calls. But the, it's better to get checked out and make sure everything's okay. *sigh*
Well, apparently last night was a misunderstanding on my part. I'm chatting with Connie as I get these past few entries cooked up and ready to upload, and she doesn't recall being mad at me for anything last night. A little upset that so many people forgot/misremembered her birthday, but that's about it. Glad to know I didn't screw up tooo much.
I guess I'm about as done with this as I'm gonna get. I'll go ahead and get this wrapped up and shipped to Geocities. Take care, and keep your fingers crossed for me!
