Deltree Windows
April 3, 1998
Well, sometimes you've just gotta do it. And this was one of those times. I've been having problems with various programs that suddenly aren't able to access the file dialog boxes (open or save) and it's been hitting at the worst possible times: I'll finally get to a URL to download something only to find I can't tell it what to save and it aborts the download, or I'll be working on something in Paint Shop Pro and want to save it and I can't. Extremely frustrating... I had that happen on the first, when I was making some new graphics for my pages. Fortunately, what I had done was easy to replicate, just took a little time.
Anyway, that was one of a couple little things that had been bothering me lately, and since Jev reinstalled Windows NT on his system yesterday, I thought I'd go ahead and do a reinstall here. I had a copy of OSR2 on ZIP disk that I'd gotten from him, and when I'd tried it before, I didn't have the OEM registration number, so I'd had to do an install from my original 95 CD (which I bought when it first came out).
This time, I had a reg number, and installed OSR2 without any fuss. (Okay, Microsoft, sue me. You're the ones who wouldn't give FAT32 to those of us who bought W95 the day it debuted! Some of us do happen to be smart enough to install it and not screw up our computers.) Much to my surprise, when I switched resolutions from 640 x 480 to 800 x 600, it didn't get as dark as it had been before. That was something that had been bugging me for months now, and I'm glad to finally be able to see things that were just too dark to make out before. Lots of times I've gone to peoples' pages only to find their background so dark I can't see the text, which is really annoying.
Now I'm in the process of trying to download the latest version of Internet Explorer. Yep, trying. It's restarted on me three or four times now, and if it restarts again, I'm shelving that project for later. I have 4.0 installed from CD and that will do until the net decides to cooperate. I still have a million other things to install, and I'm glad that Frontier is on Zip Disk and I don't need to install that, just pop the disk in and go. If only everything were that easy!
