New Toys
March 2nd, 1998
I'm a happy camper today... I got new kitchen / table stuff for when Jevim and I move in together, a new version of Frontier, and a new version of Paint Shop Pro to play with. What more could a girl want? Oh, and I got a new CD too.
*remembering journal entry about how 'things' aren't where it's at* Admittedly, I guess I'm as materialistic as the next person. I was just mock-whining to Jevim that I wanted a pressure-sensitive drawing tablet for the computer, but I know that's something I probably won't get for a year or two. No big deal. It's nice to get new things -- whether it be new clothes, new toys, or what have you -- but it's not the driving force in my life. Yes, it cheered me up this evening when I was in a rotten mood, but then, I'm only human.
Jevim brought it to my attention tonight that my journal is getting behind. I hadn't realized it, but I hadn't posted an entry since the 23rd of last month... a week ago. I had written an entry on Saturday, but never got around to putting it up, and wrote another entry longhand last night, but haven't typed it in yet. I was going to tackle that, but Jevim was poking around the Frontier site earlier and told me there was a version 5.0.1 out.
Since that was newer than what I had, I went ahead and upgraded it. Since March is here, I wanted a new look, and since my demo of Paint Shop Pro had expired (I was waiting til I could get down to Connie's to go to Best Buy and pick it up cheaper than I could order it online; just haven't gotten there yet), I was going to reinstall it, but decided to look first and see if they had a newer version. Sure enough, there is a beta of Version 5, and I'm downloading it now. It looks like they've made some major additions in this version, and I'm anxious to try it out!
I spent the morning offline, after Jevim left for class. Since Mom is still feeling worn out from her trip, I decided to clean up the kitchen and laundry room. Besides, I can stand the exercise! I did that, and then she said she was going to watch "The Abyss" -- one of my favorite movies -- and so I took my latest cross-stitch to work on, and joined her. We started just after eleven and weren't done by 1:15 (I have the director's cut, letterbox edition which is nearly 3 hours long, I believe), so we decided to stop it and go out for lunch, since there really wasn't much left in the cupboards.
After the lunch buffet at KFC, we went to Wal-Mart, and I exchanged the CD Delina had sent in my Christmas package (I already had it), and wandered around the store a bit. I had seen the dish set I have been wanting had been reduced a bit in the latest ad, so I decided to check it out. Not only the dishes themselves, but the accessories had been reduced too, so I bought the package with a trivet, spoon rest, napkin holder, and salt and pepper shakers, for $13. I was a bit disappointed with the quality of the pieces when I got home and looked at them, but not terribly so. I think I will get the tea set as well, teapot, creamer and sugar bowl, and haven't decided about the canister set or glasses yet. I was telling Jevim about them after I got home this afternoon, and he said he was surprised I was excited about dishes. I told him I felt like a little girl with her first tea set. *chuckle*
Well, the first download (the PSP application itself) is complete, so I'm going to play with that and start downloading the 'picture tubes', another 8MB or so. Type to you later...
