Getting Away from it All

May 4, 1998

Well, here I am at Connie's, in Springfield. Friday afternoon, Mom and I drove down to Jefferson City, and then Saturday morning, her parents and I left early (around 6 am) and drove the rest of the way down to Springfield. It wasn't as long a trip as I remember, but maybe that was because I was only half awake for part of it. Anyway, Connie met us in the parking lot of the church were her dad was going to a model railroaders' gathering, and she took us to her sister's, dropped off her mom, and then she and I ran around a bit... shopping at Michael's, where I still didn't find the Teresa Wentzler patterns I really wanted (I found the four seasons carousel horses at Hobby Lobby in Jeff City, and Mom had taken me to the Michael's in Columbia, but they didn't have any at all that I wanted (I'm looking for "Stroke of Midnight" or "Rapunzel"), though I did get some linen for 40% off thanks to coupons. The Michael's down here in Springfield didn't have any I wanted either, so I bought a Cherished Teddies cross stitch book with another 40% off coupon.

Her parents came back by and took us to Sam's Club so Connie could get her own card, and she pointed out Teresa, her girlfriend who works there. Her parents brought us back to the apartment, and we spent the rest of the evening watching "The Saint" which she had on video, and whatever else came on, and I worked on my cross-stitch. I realized I'd left a few of my floss colors behind, which was really annoying as they're colors I need for the trees in the area I'm working on, but I can manage without them and fill them in when I get back home.

Yesterday, we were complete lazy bums and did nothing but watch TV and I worked on my cross stitch. I'm actually making good progress on it! Maybe I'll get it done by the end of this summer. *hope* *hope* Anyway, yesterday afternoon, we went over to Connie's older sister's for dinner (barbecue, yum!) and to watch TV and to have a sort of birthday party for Connie's nephew, who just turned 24.

I had mentioned to Jev when we talked Saturday night that we were going to Rusty's birthday party, and he asked me how old Rusty was. I said I wasn't sure, and so Jev asked if I was ready to be a jungle gym (as in little kids climbing on me). I chuckled and told him that I thought Rusty was at least in his teens. Boy was I surprised when I found out Rusty was 24! I told Jev that last night and we both laughed. So much for a jungle gym.

It doesn't seem like Monday! Connie doesn't work today, and so it feels like Sunday, but I know Jev has to go turn in his take home final, and then take another final this afternoon. I'm half tempted to hop online, but I don't want the line to be busy if Teresa tries to call Connie. She said Teresa was supposed to stop by for a bit, but I have no idea what time that will be, and I don't think Connie does either.

Don't know what we'll do today, but I'm up and dressed and except for brushing my teeth and putting on shoes and socks, I'm ready to go somewhere. I was so low on energy Saturday and yesterday, but today it feels like it's finally starting to come back. I took a shower yesterday morning here at Connie's and it felt soooooo good. We only have a tub at our house, so it's been months since I had a shower at Jev's, and even then, 99% of the time I'd take a bath because I like to soak. Yes, I'm rambling... I think I will shut up now and wrap this up.
