I Love a Rainy Night
Tuesday, May 12, 1998. 9ish a.m.
I stayed offline until after 11 my time last night, hoping Jev might call again, but he didn't. So I hopped online and chatted with friends and uploaded my latest entries and surfed a bit. Before I knew it, it was almost 1am, and I said my goodbyes and went to bed. I awoke at 4am to a wild sound and light show, realized that I needed to close my bedroom window because the rain might be coming in, then curled up in bed again with the big teddy bear Jev gave me and let the rain send me back to sleep.
I woke up again this morning around 8:30 or so, to find the sun shining brightly. There's not a cloud in the sky, the day is fresh and cool, and the birds are chasing each other across the lawn to get the most bread bits that Mom just threw out for them. I really do love a rainy night when it brings such a beautiful day on its heels.
I did manage to get all my things unpacked and (surprise!!) put away last night before I went to bed. No duffel bag and its contents cluttering my floor. I was tempted to start cross stitching some fingertip towels I bought while I was out and about, but I got caught up chatting, uploading files, and so on. I really don't need to start another project, anyway. I should go ahead and get back to work on the dragon cross stitch, anyway. I also need to clear out my TV cabinet cupboard and get my CD player hooked up again; it's been sitting there waiting for weeks now. I can think of a handful of other things I should get done, too, but for now (well, after some breakfast), I want to finish the journal redesign and try to get the new layout uploaded.
I was reading through Diary-L this morning and found a brand new journal burb starting up... Speak Freely, for those of us who use free webspace providers like Geocities and Xoom, and I'm all signed up and waiting to be added to the ring. Much to my surprise, I'm site #2. *chuckle* There are a few other rings I would like to join (yes, I'm a hit junkie, I confess!), but I want to get the site redesign first. Typing this isn't getting that done, and my stomach's been rumbling for the past half hour at least, and so I'm off.
Play Money
11:01pm
Well, I never did get around to working on the redesign. Mom was out on the porch, painting a small wooden shelf to send to her friend out in california, and she asked if I'd come out there and do my thing. I went out and had breakfast, then spent an hour or so working on my cross stitch. I'm nearly done with the rocks above and to the right of the dragon's tail, and tomorrow I may actually get to the tail itself!
When Mom was done, she asked if I wanted to go to the bank or the library or anything, and I did, so we headed out. I asked her to stop at the license bureau, and I went in and got the little booklet to study for the written test so I can get a learner's permit. I skimmed through it this evening, and if I just read through it a time or two, I think I'll do fine on the test. Then I'll be officially ready to learn to drive.
After the license bureau, we hit the bank, and instead of the usual twenties, I asked the teller for fifties for what's going into my moving fund. I wound up with a couple of the new bills, which I'd never seen before, and when I got back to the car, I showed them to Mom. She said they looked like play money, and I have to agree... they just look weird! We did some more running around, I spent a few dollars here and there, and managed to avoid the computer for the rest of the afternoon and evening. I must be ill!
Jev never called til about 11:30 his time, but we talked for a bit and he told me he didn't go to the picnic after all. He's going through a bad case of the 'missing you's, ('you' being me) and we didn't really talk a whole lot. I had hoped he would ask about my day, but he didn't. Once he hopped off the phone, I finally hopped online, and I've been catching up on mail, web surfing and chatting since.
I did join another journaling webring (Chapter Two), but have yet to be added to the ring. It's now almost 1am (I got very sidetracked with mail), and I guess I should be heading off to bed soon. We're due for more thunderstorms tonight, but I've closed my window, and I'm tired enough that wouldn't mind sleeping through them tonight.
