Talking Trees Tuesday, May 19, 1998 The cicadas have invaded! The big tree outside my window, the entire length of the fence on the west side of our property, and the ground are covered in the crunchy little things. They weren't noisy at first, but they're getting started now. It reminds me of a couple years back when Delina, Michelle (her younger sister) and Deanna (their friend who shares their house) were visiting, and Deanna said, "The trees are talking!!" Well, she added a word in there I skipped, but I think you get the point. So now we have talking trees again, and I assume it will get worse before it gets better. I hate bugs (as I'm sure you've figured out if you've been reading this week) and I the bigger they are, the more I hate them. The invasion has thus curtailed my stargazing, for now. I hope they don't have cicadas in Maryland! We went to Wal-Mart today, and I got some anti-itch cream, so my bugbites are tolerable now. I just need to find an Avon lady to sell me some Meat So Neat. Never heard of it? That's what Mom calls their Skin So Soft bath oil. The oil with 101 uses, including bug repellant. I took AT&T up on their bribe, and used the $100 to help pay some of my bills. Not that I couldn't afford to pay them before, but I'd much rather leave the money in my savings and let someone else pay them. It looks like I'll be travelling more than once this summer, and the extra money is nice for plane fares. I wrote a quick message to Delina this morning, and she wrote back and said that she did want me to come up for a while this summer, and that Jev was more than welcome to come stay for a weekend, too. I'm so excited! We still have to work out the details, but I think I'll really have a nice time. Last time I was up there, I was missing my former friends here in Missouri. This time, it will be a way to keep busy while I can't be with Jev, and then an added bonus of an extra visit with him.
