Bug Food
Monday, May 18, 1998. 2pm
I just realized as I typed the date, today is my dad's birthday. If I had his phone number, I just might actually call, but I don't. And yes, I really don't want to call, because his wife would most likely answer, and I do not want to talk to her. So, happy birthday, Dad, wherever you are...
The bugs must really think I'm a delicacy. After going out after dark two nights in a row with no protection, I'm covered in a dozen or so mosquito bites. They weren't really bothering me today, until it started to get warm enough to make me perspire, then they started itching. What fun. We have no anti-itch cream in the house, because Mom used it all up last summer when she got a bad case of poison ivy, and we never bought more. I guess that means it's about time for a trip to the friendly neighborhood wally world. Now that I'm inside where it's cooler, they're not bugging me so much. This is a good thing, since Mom's gone at the moment anyway.
Delina, my best friend from high school, writes me an e-mail once or twice a week from work and lets me know how she's doing. Last week, she wrote and told me her mom has e-mail access now. I spent a lot of time at their place after we graduated from high school, and even lived with them a couple months to finish up school in California after Mom had moved here to Missouri, so I know her mom pretty well, and have been enjoying writing back and forth with her, and now her son, Delina's younger brother, who is now going to college himself. He was only about eleven when Delina and I graduated; I feel old!!!
Anyway, Willa -- that's Delina's mom -- said that they were going to be in Indiana for her birthday (that's mid-July, I think), and asked if I would like to come up to St. Paul with them, and stay up there for a while this summer.
It sounds great to me... Delina's always telling me who she's seen at the state fair, which is a mere couple miles from where they live. I haven't been to a concert in... well, a year at least, and would really love to go. I haven't mentioned it to Mom or Jev yet, but I wanted to e-mail Delina and see what her thoughts were, first. Jev may read it here before I talk to him, but maybe I'll catch him first. He's not in his office at the moment, but hopefully he'll call back in a while.
I was really afraid I'd wind up stuck at home most of the summer, so a Minnesota trip would be wonderful. I went up to visit Delina, her sister, and their friend in May of '96, and they and Delina's mom stopped by in September of that year, on their way back from Indiana, but I don't think I've seen them since.
On another note, I'm making good progress on the dragon cross stitch. I need to update the image again (I'll do that before I upload this), to show how far I've come. It's so much easier to work when I'm not changing colors every twenty stitches! But that will only last for so long, I know, then it's back to a few stitches of this and a few stitches of that. Ah, well. In the end, it'll be worth it. Hmm... I just thought of something. Supposedly, Delina has another cross stitch that I had just started before I moved away. We were both doing it at the same time, from the same pattern book, so I didn't take it with me. I think it may have been another Teresa Wentzler pattern, but I won't be sure until I see it again.
