I took a nice long bath this morning and read a bit more of Something More and ran across another exercise that cried out "do me!" So here it we go...
Buried dreams... things I've said that I want to do, and some that I still hope I can...
If I could do anything in the world I set my mind to, I'd like to...
- be involved in the life of a child... from the time they are a babe in arms, through their middle school and teenage years, and be a friend to them, when they are grown.
I've come close to this one only to have distance or parents come between us, and I guess I feel that it's the closest that I'll ever come to raising a child of my own.
- Write my own computer programs.
This one, at least, should be well within reach. I'm currently signed up for a C++ programming course online, but I admit that I haven't been very good about keeping up so far. But tomorrow's only the beginning of the second week, and I'm not all that far behind, so the doing it is entirely up to me making it a priority.
- Be a published author.
Okay, I know I can write fairly well... I think the only thing holding me back in this department is fear... fear of being a flop, and maybe even fear of being a success. I mean, what happens if *gasp* I actually finished one of my stories, sent it in to someone, and they wanted to publish it?!? It's almost a scary thought!
- Help kids who've gone through some of the same stuff I have; ideally by writing books about characters they can relate to, and letting them see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, if they're willing to reach for it.
I'm sure if I just let my mind wander, I could think of more... the only problem is, just writing down these ideas has got my mind running off in those directions, instead of trying to think of some more things that I'd like to do.
Hmm... a few more...
- Get married to Jev.
- Have a house of our own and enjoy our lives together... making sure we always make time and set aside a little money to do the fun things in life.
- Find a girlfriend to run around and do girl-stuff with, who lives in the same city, or at least within a short enough drive that we don't have to make major arrangements to spend time together.
- Have my own garden, where I get to pick what I plant and where I plant it, and then make a strawberry pie, with strawberries out of my own garden.
- Go camping with Jev and spend a night under the stars.
- Rebuild old computers into useable ones, for kids whose parents can't afford them.
- Run my own webserver and have my own domain name... maybe even run an Internet-based BBS type thing.
- Join a needlework group, to have other people to stitch with and learn from.
Well, there you have it... at least a few of the things I'd like to accomplish in my life. Right now, that dragon cross stitch is calling, saying "Finish me!!!" and so I'm off to stitch until Jev gets back. Type to you later...
