The woman I thought would live forever-
Like one of her favorite things, a butterfly,
Never around as long as you wish they were,
but yet in the time you spent with her you could see the
extent of her beauty.
Kind, gentle, non-judgmental.
Flowers, butterflies, long walks.
Love to laugh, joy of life, seeing beauty in everything.
Tea time in the afternoon.
Hey in the field, beautiful gardens, her green house.
Getting the mail was an event.
Rolling cold pancakes in sugar.
Paying me 10 cents to do a 'chore'.
Raking leaves, compost, preparing for next year's gardens.
Adventurous, independent.
Proud of who she is, proud of who I am, proud of her family.
Walking in on Grandma and Grandpa hugging.
Walking in on Grandma showing Grandpa the sock monkey she was making for my birthday and seeing her hide it behind her back.
Hearing her 'whisper'.
Watching her 'strut her stuff', something she truly enjoyed.
Confidence, Inner beauty.
My Grandma.
I wish you could see me now, Grandma.
I wish you could see the woman I've become.
How I've grown, how I am discovering myself.
That is one thing that you knew well, Grandma- you knew who you were.
You would be proud of my Grandma, to see what I have been through and to see me standing here, strong in the power of our Lord.
You would be happy to know that I'm following you advice now, Grandma.
I'm becoming independent, I'm fallowing my dreams, I'm stepping out and being adventurous.
I wish you could see how I look in short hair, I know you would like it.
I wish you could see me now, Grandma.
I know you can't- God said there's no tears there in heaven and if you would have seen what I've been through you would have shed some.
One of these days I'll see you again and I know you'll be proud of me Grandma, and I'll be able to tell you that I'm proud of you too.
