Pressed Flowers
Press the flower between the pages
Memory of a love now lost
We cling to promises made long ago
But to keep them, what would be the cost?
We hold each other close in the storm
Our loneliness soaks us to the bone
The chill of it threatens to freeze our hearts
As we withdraw behind our walls of stone.
The desperation in your eyes
Mirrors my own sorrow
The memory of love holds us for now
We cannot say for sure about tomorrow.
I've pressed the flower between the pages
To remind me of what we once knew
Touch my hand with that old tenderness
As the storm rages, to make it through.
