'The
Muse' 1920
Mucha
lived from 1860 to 1939. He was largely
ignored
by critics and art institutions
early
this century, this was partly due to his art
being
widely used for posters, calendars and
architectural
design. Mostly though, he was ignored
because
he openly criticised the 'Cubist Revolution'
and
painted easily recognisable, beautiful images.
The
above is also the reason he is to be found on
these
pages - I don't much like the Cubists either!
He
is largely responsible for the advent of
'Art
Nouveau' and is my favourite exponent of this
wonderfully
romantic style.
