Christian Riese
Lassen was born in 1956 in California. He was
always deeply
interested in the wonders of nature, but his imagination was
fired by the
tropical splendor of Hawaii when his family moved to Maui
when he was
11.
His paintings
reflect impressionism, absolute realism and a style uniquely
his own which
he describes as "Illusionary Realism."
He is a frequent speaker in both the United States and Japan on
environmental
issues, and in 1990 he established The Seavision
Foundation.
Seavison is
a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation
and protection
of the oceans and other environmental causes. A portion of
the proceeds
from sales of his works are donated to the
foundation.
In 1992 he was
given the honour of being commissioned by the United
Nations to create
an official stamp commemorating ocean preservation.
