September 16th - Midland, ON

It was hard to leave Marie and the interesting conversation (CNWE women talk!) but it was time to move on to Midland and meet up with Joanne. Joanne, Margaret Rowe, Barbara G. and myself lived together in Nanaimo BC in the early 1970's. Sharing life together as a religious community formed a bond among us that has lasted through the decades.

Once again the scenery was spectacular with no place to pull over and enjoy it! At Midland, I went in search of a cup of coffee and found a little coffee shop. I didn't realize it was closing time as the young woman behind the counter pleasantly served me. Later I thanked her for her graciousness; I'm sure she wanted to clean up and go home. It was another one of those unexpected encounters with people who go out of their way to be kind to others.

Sign at Martyr's Shrine: "Please do not drink the Holy Water"!

Met Joanne at the Martyr's Shrine in Midland as planned. A short tour of the church led to this window - St. Therese and St. Francis Xavier - the contemplative and the missionary joined together...I think of it as a symbol of the integration in each of us of these two actions.
