September 21st - Toronto

My last day in Toronto. There is so much here - riches of cultures and institutions of learning. Lots of green spaces. People have made the abundant black and grey squirrels almost into pets! Lots of people from the same ethnic background to ease the transition to a new land. I can see why people live here and love it. I on the other hand, being something of a slowpoke, find it too rushed for me; I want to stand in the middle of all the bustle and shout: "STOP! BREATHE! LOOK at your neighbour!" Perhaps because I found it so difficult to breathe. Yet there seems to be many people dedicated to different exercises and meeting some of them helps to balance the impressions formed by my own panic in the crowded rush.

Elaine G., another CNWE sister, invited us to her house to meet her family, Steven, Lady and BJ, and took us to "tea". Her lovely spaniels got to meet Jessie and share a walk on the beach. The horizon was full of sailboats, the boardwalk full of people walking and enjoying the entertainers. Jessie got to wet her paws in the emerald waters of Lake Ontario. We've touched three of the Great Lakes now; Ontario, Superior and Huron.

Because I was taking Jessie we drove in my van...all I can say about driving a van in Toronto is from the words of a song by the Tin Pants Theatre:

"I had my high anxiety, but now I'm just in shock!"
