September 1st - Day 8 - Hinton to Spruce Grove

The Rockies are now in my rear view mirror as I enter the foothills to the east.

The campground has an excellent restaurant, but unfortunately is quite noisy in spite of a 10 pm "quiet time" posting. Someone was partying with loud music at 3 am when I woke up for a bathroom break. Camping is like living in a monastery....one must be aware and considerate of others!

It's a good test of my resolve to grow in compassion for others! I'm still reading Nolan's book Jesus, before Christianity and Compassion seems to be the key word. This is the "Sign of Jonah", God's compassion for us and our living in that with each other.

Some of the things he says resonate so deeply with what I've tried to find words for over the years. That is, a different government in power will not necessarily lead to greater justice for the poor....altho we have to keep trying. The problem is, we build our society on power, prestige and possessions...a different definition for "3P". The major change - if we are to survive - must be within our own hearts and minds.

No pictures today! There were not many rest stops on the Yellowhead. The mountains have been replaced by blue sky and interesting cloud formations. I stopped early at a Good Sam campground just outside Edmonton. It was wonderful to have a good shower without beetles (as last night) and in a clean washroom. I also did my laundry so Jessie and I will have a clean bed tonight. The people are friendly - I met a couple who are moving to Parksville, and the lady down the road came and said hello. There is internet access, but I still couldn't get it to work.

Tomorrow I'l explore Edmonton and meet Kate.
